I ordered a club sandwich and was left feeling let down. I hate ordering food and instantly regretted my decision. The sandwich was just ok at best, with a coke it came to £5.50 which is a good price. I must point out that I’ve eaten in berries before and really enjoyed it. This was a miss day unfortunately. The shop was bunged with students and it was understaffed, this could explain the food being below par. Hopefully next time I visit it will be back to being nice. If this was my first time here tho it would have gotten 2 star or below but because I have enjoyed it previously I will give it 3.

Berries is a small little sandwich shop, serving a decent selection of sandwiches and paninis. They don’t have much in the way of hot food, but you can get a Fry here(see my Biddy Duffy’s review) and it’s a pretty good one too. They also do chips(a.k.a. French fries/freedom fries, for our friends from farther afield). Their sandwiches are good too, and usually come with a few crisps on the side if you’re sitting in. It only seats about 20-odd people, but that gives it a cosy local feel to it. It’s bright and clean and has a few of the softer sofa type seats at the window. It’s the type of place that’s always bustling around lunchtime, with many local workers coming in for their sandwiches and coffee. It’s a great place to sit back and take it easy for a while, while the rest of the world goes about their business. It’s also a very pleasant and relaxed coffee shop, and the girls who run it quickly get to know the regulars and you can have a bit of craic(banter) with them — they’re very friendly and hospitable.

If ever a coffee shop survived on the strength of the student population it would have to be this one. On a week day during term time you would be very lucky to find a seat in this wee shop because it is jammed full of St. Mary’ students having a(well-deserved) break from their hard day studying. The prices in this shop are certainly aimed at students on a low budget but that doesn’t compromise the quality. My girlfriend brought me here one morning and I was impressed with the wide selection they offered, everything from a scone, sandwich or panini right through to a full English(or full Irish) breakfast. The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the size of the place, when there is more than ten people seated at once the place feels very cramped. Other than that great food and an even better price tag.
