We went here for a Christmas party with a group of about 20 people. It was fantastic. The service was great — pleasant and efficient staff, the food was first rate and the band were excellent. The impression is that the staff are working hard to make sure that everything is as relaxed and enjoyable for the guests, and it works! I hope to be back again soon.

Lovely atmosphere with live jazz and a great cocktail menu. The décor and general design of the place is beautiful. It’s usually about 25+ crowd with relaxed feel. It’s a little pricey for drinks but getting live music and usually a booth with table service makes it worth it.

Berts is an experience… somewhere I have only been to celebrate birthdays. a real treat! Was here for my friends birthday last year and we went back again this year! Last year we went for the dinner sitting. it was a lovely way to celebrate. dinner, cocktails & Jazz! I shared the charcuterie board & then the chateaubriand… both were amazing. I could have ate them both to myself… we accompanied this with a lovely Rioja. The others at the table enjoyed steaks, Camembert & a few little sides too. The food came out on time & it was very relaxing to have the Jazz in the background too. This particular night the service was good, the guy had great knowledge of the menu & was very helpful. Most recently we decided to try their Brunch menu. The menu is quite good in that you can have the brunch(an item off the brunch menu & a cocktail for £15) or you can eat from the lunch menu also. Some of us went for the offer & others ordered from the main menu. Again the waiter knew the menu well & was attentive. I had the eggs Benedict on this occasion & it was very nice but I have had nicer. I’m being very harsh as Berts belongs to the merchant so was expecting the bling of a 5 star meal(but was nice that it wasn’t too in your face!) I had the Bloody Mary which was amazing! We then tried the cocktail of the month which was the barmans creation. «The Playright» a gin one in memory of our own Brian Friel. It was amazing and they should totally add this to their cocktail list! The service charge is automatically added to the bill. which is a bit annoying as a few tables were left with their plates not cleared even though the customers had gone. again not 5 star service. But saying that I will be back for either the brunch or dinner menu. will have to find something to celebrate!

I love this place! I was here for my birthday dinner last year, and have regularly stopped in for a few drinks. Dinner is delicious and rich, Chateaubriand for 2, baked camembert, crème brûlée, are among your options and will leave you feeling stuffed. The atmosphere is indulgent too, plush velvet seating, dim lights and live jazz most nights, you won’t want to leave. The only downside is the price, this is a special occasion kind of place, cocktails are around £9 each, but they really are lovely and clearly lovingly made by the bar staff who are passionate about cocktails. If you are calling at the weekend in the evening expect the place to be busy, you’ll need to book in advance for dinner, and expect to be waiting around for a seat if it’s just for a drink.

I visited Bert’s Jazz Bar on Saturday night and I was very impressed — this place is definitely worth a visit. There wasn’t any free tables but we did manage to get seats outside in heated seating area. This did not put us off as we could still hear the jazz music playing. I opted for the French Martini and it was the best French Martini I’ve ever tasted(and I’ve drank a lot of them). The cocktails are expensive but definitely worth it!

Elegant, classy and extravagant — when the doors swing open at Berts Jazz Bar you’ll feel like you’ve been teleported to 1930’s NYC rather than Belfast. The sweet sax will be music to your ears and will give you a spring in your step and keep you smiling as you wait at the always-busy bar. There’s nowhere else in Belfast quite like Berts. It exudes class and style, Berts is the perfect place to end an evening. Their cocktail selection is unmatched — the menu is more of a novel. One thing to note is the serving staff are real professionals — they take their time over cocktails and it shows in both taste and presentation. I went for the Mai Tai and was almost to afraid to drink because I wanted to preserve it’s beauty. On a Friday or Saturday Evening you may struggle to find seats inside but don’t worry there’s is a nice heated seating area outside where you can watch the world go by whilst sipping on sublime cocktail.

I always feel underdressed in Berts. Not that I’m a scruff, or that they have a strict door policy(not football tops I’d imagine), but that it feels so glamorous and luxurious I should be in a ball gown. Or more likely a charleston frock. It is all polished brass and velvet, with a small stage one end for the jazz and the bar glitters all enticingly. And so it should, this place ain’t cheap, no sir. The cocktails, even though they are undoubtedly lovely will set you back almost 20 quid for two. Yes, the sexy waiter might bring them over to your table, and yes there are breadsticks to nibble on as you listen to some pretty pleasant music, but at those sort of prices I won’t be staying long, but if someone else is paying mine’s an espresso martini…

This was an amazing brunch with even better Bloody Marys. We were here on a Saturday at 11 am and had the ‘breakfast and a drink’ deal for £15.00. I had the Eggs Benedict and the Potatoes Grautin, both of which were perfectly prepared. The piano player was playing, and it was a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. I love Bloody Marys, and these were awesome. Go here if you like brunch and Bloody Marys, go here. :)

What a great evening! Great dinner, wonderful evening, and and pretty view out of the windows. While the service could have been a wee bit improved, it was worth it. Two teenage daughters loved the evening and the great band.

We stumbled onto this place after finding that every restaurant in the area was closed on a Sunday night, and the pubs weren’t serving food. So glad we did! We didn’t have to pay the $ 10 for a table since it was Sunday. We did have a 10% service charge added to our bill, but that only amounted to $ 5. There was a group of 8 of us, and we all ordered off the prefix menu. It was a great bargain — 3 courses each AND a bottle of wine for $ 50! You would normally expect to pay at least $ 50EACH for a meal like this and it wouldn’t come with wine. I ordered the a Waldorf salad, beef bourguignon, and a pear tart. My husband ordered the mussels, sea bass and warm chocolate cake with ice cream. The Waldorf salad was fantastic — not what you get in the states. It was greens, with deep fried cheese, apples, and pecans with a light dressing. The beef bourguignon was so tender you could cut it with a fork. Others at the table got lamb and said it was fantastic. The restaurant is beautiful, with red velvet chairs and drapery, a beautiful bar and wine collection. A great two piece band playing music from the Titanic era started playing as we were finishing our meal. It was too chilly to sit outside, but the terrace would be a great place to grab a drink, too.

I have been literally gagging to find an excuse to pay Bert’s a visit. It’s the hottest spot in town right now and I’ve heard so much about it that I just had to come and see for myself what this fabulous new chapter The Merchant has to offer. Well, having bought myself a gorgeous dress from my favourite new shop Gilly G, I couldn’t think of a better excuse! So off I trot in my pretty red shoes to the trendy jazz bar. Well, I’ll get the(few) negatives off my chest first, as all in all it was a fabulous experience, but there were a few things that I have to note as being off putting. When we arrived, the bar was bunged! Now I guess this isn’t a bad thing but it meant there wasn’t a free seat in the house. Also, the bar was running quite slowly and first off you had to cue to place your order then you had to wait while your drink was prepared — this often took quite some time! Apart from that the whole experience was great. Around 9pm the band began and instead of standing around all night(lovely shoes to look at, not to stand in!) we decided to sit on the patio area outside. It was a lovely night so we were lucky enough that the weather wasn’t usual Belfast standard(i.e. freezing) and we could enjoy our drinks outside in the balmy evening — it truly didn’t feel like we were sitting on the streets of Belfast, it felt more like a classy cosmopolitan city somewhere in Europe. I just love this new city we’re finding ourselves in *heart* As the night progressed we ordered a number of different drinks… firstly we started off with archangels(chilled prosecco, rhubard infused gin, punt e mes, campari, angelica tincture — £8.95) then moved on to a fugitive joe(em… I can’t remember, the Archangels hit us that hard!) then a number of ward eights(ditto about the alcohol!) I’ll tell you, they’re not cheap(around £9 per drink) but considering the variants and quality of alcohol I reckon its worth it! We found out from the waitress that if you want food you need to ring and book a table in advance, this costs £10 per table and the table is then yours for the night. The bar doubles as a restaurant which I wasn’t previously aware of, but boy does the food look and smell good! Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to dine here and when I get the chance I’ll be back with my reviews about that experience, until then I can’t recommend it enough. Gorgeous surroundings, gorgeous drinks and soulful, sexy songs from a silver haired crooner.
