Direct Wine Shipments are an independent, family run wine importers and distributors. This Aladdin’s Cave of wine is an absolute delight to visit. Prices range from bottles under £10 to bottles worth hundreds of pounds — so be careful you don’t accidentally knock one over as you explore the shop! All wines are grouped by country of origin and the selection is vast. They also stock some gins, whiskies, liquors and spirits. Staff are exceptionally helpful, knowledgable and pleasant. Direct Wine Shipments run wine tasting events, classes and evenings all year round. I’d highly recommend the Christmas Wine Tasting, which at £20 makes for a lovely afternoon on a cold, wet, windy November or December day. These book up extremely quickly though, so you need to book tickets immediately when you see the events appear on Direct Wines Shipments website. I recently attended the late November Christmas Wine Tasting Event which was brilliant. Hosted by wine expert Peter Morris Wilson, we sampled ten wines and heard all about them in proper wine speak. An informative and fun day. Our wines were five whites including Champagne, Alvarinho, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, four reds and a dessert wine served with Ditty’s Mince Pies. There was plenty of crusty white bread on the tables and our wine glasses were quickly filled, which I was amazed at as approximately 100 people attended the event. It was superbly well organised. There was also a 15% discount on all wines on the day of the Christmas Wine Tasting, so a lot of people took advantage of this and purchased bottles and boxes of wine. An excellent day and an excellent store.
My obsession regarding food and drink know no bounds. At heart my love for craft beer is and always will be the obsession I hold dearest, my knowledge and range of consumption hasn’t yet been trumped. However I have in recent years been trying to break through into the world of wine, red and red only as white is not my cup of vino. I’m a fan of big, ballsy rich reds like Shiraz and Cabernet, of which Direct Wine Shipment has a huge range of. Located close to the docks, Direct Wine is an importer for many of the bars and restaurants across Belfast as well as having a beautifully laid out wine selection for the public. There is a wide range of old and new world wines, red and white. There’s also a wide range of sweet wines and muscat just to your right as you come in which is superb. Prices are quite high but most of the wine on offer is of the highest quality. I ended up leaving with a Torres Chilean which was superb(I also grabbed a few bottles of Belgian ale on the way out too) If booze is your thing and wine especially then a journey here is certainly recommended.

I really like this place. My dad has used it for years to buy his wine and I always assumed it was a world that was just too pricy for me. But I was wrong. Although it is true you won’t get any of the cheap plonk that you would find in Winemark, there are still some bargains here. These bargains however are usually great tasting bottles of wine. The staff that work here are brilliant too. They are so knowledgeable but not condescending. They often give me a lot of help even though I’m not their biggest spending customer. I think they just really like to talk about wine!

Direct Wine Shipments is a great shop, the only shop of its type in Belfast. I first visited this place when I was in first year of university and decided that I’m quite the cultured man, so obviously, I needed to drink the drink of the cultured folk, wine. Despite our tight student budgets, Direct Wine Shipment’s offered us a good selection of wines, well within our price range to choose from. Even though we weren’t spending to much money, the staff still were as helpful as ever and would give us the full run down of what we were buying. I suppose everyone has to start somewhere so they are probably enthusiastic about young kids coming in through the doors for the first time. If you’re not a money conscious student and don’t mind loosening the purse strings then it’s the place to go for large range of rare and unique wines sourced by the owners of Direct Wine Shipment’s themselves. A great place.

Our family and friends have been frequenting this family-run wine merchant for as long as I can remember. Some may know it for the quality wine dealer that it is, others may remember the business from a «Ghost Hunting» BBC programme in which a team investigated the premises, as they are supposedly haunted. Either way, the value, quality and choice of wine is unparalleled anywhere in Belfast, perhaps in Northern Ireland. The staff are down to earth and pleasant and approachable, and not at all pretentious — and they really know thier wine. They will help you choose what you need, be it for a small or large event, or, I imagine, if you are a restaurant or business looking to stock up. They also have regular wine tastings and a wine club too, which is very popular. If you are planning a wedding you can have a personal appointment set up to choose your reds and whites for the big day. It’s not very accessible, parking wise, but it’s close to the city centre so it’s handy enough.
