I made my first visit to the dentist here in the UK at Elite Dental and — I gotta say — I was pretty impressed. It’s a pretty standard joke in America to make fun of UK teeth(see Austin Powers), so I had some trepidations going into Elite Dental. But I was immediately set at ease by the professionalism that I was met with as soon as I walked into the door. I was setup with an initial consultation, and the dentist took a look at the state of my teeth and let me know what was going on. This is where my first surprise was — no waiting for the X-rays to be developed. Instead what they had was some kind of high tech super X-ray that took the pictures and then immediately digitized them. The dentist then sat there and went over everything she saw that I might need to have looked at. I went back for a cleaning about a month later. This time, the hygienist used some kind of super sonic cleaning device that broke up all the plaque on your teeth. She was even able to take care of my oh-so-local tea stain that had developed on my front tooth. All in all, Elite Dental was as good as anything I could have found in the States and then some. And who says that socialized medicine doesn’t work?
