Not really too sure what to make of Hendogs to be honest. Located above The Potted Hen and somewhat less formal than its sister restaurant it seems to lack an identity. We visited on the day or Culture night and we expected it to be busy but to our surprise it was dead. By dead I mean there was no one else there except us. This was positive though as it allowed us to pick seats overlooking St Anne’s Square. The food and service were ok. Despite us being the only people upstairs the waitress still insisted that we ordered at the bar. I ordered a burrito that was served up on a prison style tray. It was nice but not remarkable. The best thing about the lunch was probably the home made side salad(pictured). I probably won’t rush back to Hendogs as it was a little on the expensive side for what it was.

Suited above The Potted Hen, Hendogs is like a spin off specialising in Hotdogs. Incidentally on my visit to the St Anne’s Square restaurant today I didn’t actually opt for a hotdog, instead I had their Dirty Burger. I’m not calling it dirty, that’s just it’s name. The burger was excellent. Cooked to perfection — coated in cheese, topped with crisp bacon and served in Belfast bap along with a balsamic dressed salad. The food was presented in tin ‘prison’ trays and their was a sharp steak knife stabbed through the top of my burger. this was handy as the burger needed to be cut because of it’s size. Hendogs has obviously been decorated to high specification. They’ve gone for the hen theme with a modern twist. You’ll see what I mean when you get there. the one stand out thing, apart from the food, about Hendogs is the view over St Anne’s Square. Today as it was Belfast Culture Night we were able to watch a Yoga class from our table although that made me feel really guilty about having the Dirty Burger. Theres a full bar(on the menu there’s boozy smoothies too) at Hendogs so I’d recommend visiting on an evening where you can enjoy a shandy or two. I’ll certainly be back to work my way through the rest of the menu.

Tried Hendogs a few weeks ago and can’t wait to return. I was not particularly looking forward to going to it for the first time as I wasn’t overly keen on the menu(too meat heavy) — however a couple of friends wanted to try it out so I give it a go. I’m really glad I did as the food was luscious. I had a veggie dog which was a huge fresh hotdog bun filled with roast veg and vegetarian chilli — it was delicious. The hotdogs are served in tin platters with salad. I also ordered a side of scrumptious garlic fries which were the envy of my table — had to fend my friends off from devouring them! We had a couple of cocktails for dessert — the Nutty Dog and Cherry Cosmo are devine. Staff are very helpful and pleasant. As with many restaurants — I’d almost give this one a 5 star rating if only there were more vegetarian options on the menu…
