My mum has a Makro card and we have used it a few times over the last few years and it is a pretty good place to get everything you want in huge quantities under one roof! The range of product here is huge, from food and meat products to clothes, electronics and home cleaning products to name but a few! Everything here comes in huge quantities, so this place is really useful for those who have large families, need to stock up for a party or for small business owners! This place is mainly aimed at business owners who are able to reclaim VAT on most of their purchases from here, which I know grates a lot of customers here, but come here and use the calculator on your phone and you will avoid any nasty shocks at the till! Be sure to register before hand to get your card or else you will be restricted to the off license for you purchasing here, but for a lot of people that isn’t so bad! Makro is the nearest thing in Northern Ireland to providing a Walmart like service, so for that kind of scale and value I applaud it!

Yes Makro is a good spot if you’re looking to buy in bulk — boxes of crisps, chocolate, sweets, not to mention the actual food. You can buy huge packets and boxes of meat, chicken, etc., and if you have the storage space you can make some good savings. IMPORTANT: YOUWILLNOTBEPERMITTEDENTRYTOMAKROWITHOUT A MAKROCARD. The off licence is open to the public, but you need a Makro card to access the rest of the store. Often people tell others about Makro and forget to mention that you have to have a card, which you have to apply for and include details such as VAT registration numbers for your business. I know a lot of shoppers will find that disappointing, but better you find out now than travel up and get refused entry at reception. That being said, a lot of people go here to get the big boxes of washing powder, big bags/cases of dog food, as well as boxes of blank Cds etc. It also has a lot of electrical equipment(TVs, computers, digital cameras, etc), sporting equipment, clothes… the list goes on. There are some great offers available when the«Makro Mail» comes out, which is their fortnightly publication which details their special offers for that period. You usually need to get there on the first day of the offers though(every second Wednesday), as Makro tend not to have huge stocks of these goods which are effectively their«loss leaders». They also have a «sale mail» which they bring out occasionally in addition to the Makro Mail.(You can look through the Makro Mails on their website). There are savings to be made too in their off licence, especially if buying cases of wine or availing of special offers. What a lot of people find frustrating is that the prices listed are exclusive of VAT, as the store is ostensibly intended for retailers who reclaim VAT, so some people get a bit of a surprise when they get to the till. If you know someone who has a card, they can bring two people in as guests. It’s a great store you could spend hours in, and the off licence is accessible without a Makro card.

Makro is brilliant! Fact! Everything you could ever possibly need is under this huge stores roof and the best thing about is how well priced their products are. It is fundamentally a cash’n’carry making it a great supplier for local shops but its vast range of products means that it caters for everyone, storing everything from garden furniture to flat pack wardrobes for home DIY, TVs ad PCs for entertainment centres, winter coats to flip flops in the clothing department and a full range of food and drink for weekly shopping. You do need to have a Makro customer card to be able to shop in it though so beware. A great part of Marko that is open to the public however is its massive off licence, which offers THEE best variety of drinks I’ve ever come across, available in individual packs or to buy in bulk making it perfect for any party or festival camping trip! Everything is very well priced and you may actually find that your favourite tipple is cheaper here than your usual wine and beer shop!

Ever true to their reputation as penny-pinching spendthrifts, Belfast natives adore the Makro Wholesalers store. While it’s generally targeted at local small shop owners, many people will do their weekly food shop here and buy in bulk. Great discounts and deals to be had, especially for new parents looking to stop on nappies which can be quite expensive in the High St stores; you can pick them up at Makro for half the price and twice the supply.
