The next time you’re in House of Fraser, try out the Oyster Bar. It’s only small but it has a definite air of luxury about it. It’s actually a champagne and oyster bar but so far my budget has only stretched to cava which is the next best thing and good enough for me. The Oyster Bar is in the corner of the retail shop floor which is both good and bad: Bad because shoppers can look at your plate and watch you chew Good because you can see the KG and Carvelas shoes while you eat. The menu is on the short side and pretty much all fish and seafood. On our last visit I had the salmon on wheaten which came with a little bit of salad and a lovely vinaigrette. My friend had the platter of langoustines which was nothing short of theatrical to look at. It wasn’t a great success though, too much faffing around with the little picky tools they give you and 2 of the langoustines were smeared with something brown and mud like. However, knowing what prawns live on, I fear it wasn’t mud. Still the important thing is that I enjoyed mine. It is all about me after all. We had a couple of glasses of cava each and the bill was about £20 each. Not bad value given that we were drinking fizz. The Oyster bar is very much the kind of place for a quick bite while taking a break from shopping and not somewhere you would sit for hours as you can’t order drinks without food. But for me, it’s somewhere I will definitely keep in mind for a quick and glamorous lunch.
