This would be our local Tesco and so it’s handy to call by. There is parking available(to the rear and underground), however there aren’t a lot of spaces so sometimes you would have to park in the nearby streets. The shop has a good range of products but is quite small, so you wouldn’t get the same choice that you would in the bigger stores. The shops always seems to be quite busy. It’s worth calling in if you’re passing and need some things, but I wouldn’t go out of your way to travel to this store as one of the bigger ones would be better for travelling to.

Tesco Express does an excellent job for the people of the Lisburn road area. It is a mecca for students as not only can they buy their Tesco value super noodles and other cheap student staples here, but more importantly they can acquire their Tesco brand vodka here! The store itself is as sterile as any other Tesco store but it does the job well enough. The selection is moderate but give you all the essentials that you need under one roof, and it also gives you access to the best special offers that are running in the larger Tesco stores. Unfortunately to make up for this prices are higher than the supermarket but this is to be expected in the general trend of rip off local convenience stores in Belfast. The staff aren’t overly helpful, they are as faceless and generic as other shops, you need more relaxed and smaller local run shops for banter to flourish with workers I have come to learn!

Yeah I know its a Tesco’s and hardly a local independent business but shush! It’s my Tesco’s. This store seems to have quite a student feel to it. Unlike a lot of the other Tesco’s, it always feels like they started to make it look nice then decided to cover the bits they didn’t do with food. It does provide a very cheap weeks shopping, I get all I need for my belly for around £20 a week which is cracking value. Whilst you need to be careful with some of their own brand stuff, a lot of it is as good as the big names, just in plain packaging.

Über-conglomerate it may be, but at the end of the day where would we all be without the convenience and variety of this kind of supermarket chain. The store on the Lisburn Road up until a year or so was my local Tesco store, and served me well for the five or so years I was residing in the thriving student areas of south Belfast. This particular store is a little dated and limited compared with some of it’s much more recent additions. It now has an off license which when it was originally opened it lacked due to the bizarre and jarring way licensing works in this part of the world. There is a modest fruit and vegetable section, small ethnic food section and a fairly well stocked beer, wine and spirits section. There is also a spattering of electrical goods on the way in. Not perfect by any means, low ceilings and slightly dated fixtures make this feel a little more like the Stewarts and Crazy Prices store it has long since replaced.

I live next to Tesco so for me that in itself is reason to go. It is cheaper than any of the other independent stores(but not necessarily better quality food) but it is one of the smaller ones in Northern Ireland. Thus the store does not often have everything you need, and if you happen to find yourself stuck in it anytime between 5 and half 6, you are likely to be stuck in a massive queue. I work in a shop so I have a certain affinity with what these people have to go through, but some of the staff look desperately unhappy in their job and as we are beaten with the customer service stick so much, I think this particular Tesco store should have a retraining too because the staff do not seem to care at all with what they are doing. On the plus side, it is probably the cheapest place for groceries on the Lisburn Road and the alcohol offers are incredible compared to pub prices.

Tesco on the Lisburn road is OK. This is where I do the bulk of my grocery shopping, also I get an extra 10% off because I know Tesco peeps. The only thing is, you need to get there before products run out of stock. You’re screwed if you get there in the afternoon before quitting time. Apparently, people around the Lisburn road are crazy about lemongrass because everytime I go there to buy Thai coconut soup ingredients, they always run out! Also, we had a problem with the staff there regarding marking us a discount after they rang up our groceries. The so-called managers seemed incompetent and they gave us the run around because they didn’t the answer. It was annoying! But eventually it was resolved.

This store is a haven for students! It is nearby Queen’s University Belfast and student accommodation, meaning it is just a short trek for cheap pot noodles and pasta meals galore. On a serious note though, this store is quite big, stocking a large variety of products, from Tesco own brands to the more popular brand ranges, as well as a well stocked fruit and veg section. It also serves alcohol(perhaps another reason why it is very popular with students), as well all the necessary house items such as kitchen items(pots and pans, cutlery etc), bathroom items etc. Below this Tesco store there is also a free parking area, and a lift that take you up to the store. Very convenient Tesco! I am going to give it three stars however because despite it stocking good amounts of products, the customer service I receive often isn’t the friendliest and checkout staff sometimes try to get my transaction over with as soon as possible.
