The Irishman’s old haunt from his St. Mary’s days. Went by with the ‘rents during our family-moon for a bit of a tour of his university years. Smelled a lot like urine(during a weekday afternoon). I don’t think I could have stuck around for more than a pint.

The Beehive would mostly be made up of locals and some students from St. Mary’s College. It’s an OK place during the day, but I was never overly fond of it at night, although the karaōke nights are good for a laugh. Saturday and Sunday nights are aimed at a much younger crowd, with a lot of commercial and dance music.

Going to the Beehive was a bit of a hike for us when we first got to Belfast. Not being from this neck of the woods, going over to the West side of Belfast seemed like a long, scary trip. We shouldn’t have worried, however, because the reception we got at the Beehive was more than welcome. As with most bars over in this part of town, the drinks are a little cheaper. They have all the standard bar food munchies. We had some chips with our Guinnesses(Guinnii?) and they were exactly what we needed. On the weekends they have bands and karaōke style sing alongs. Sure, it’s nothing special but for an out of towner making their way around the West side, it’s an interesting enough place.

The Beehive is located right next door to St Mary’s College and I have only been here once. Chances are I won’t be back. I have nothing against Irish bars but this place really isn’t anything special. Obviously students from St Mary’s have a particular affiliation with the Beehive but the first thing I noticed was the sticky floor, the next was the expensive drink and finally the mediocre food. If you are meeting friends for a bit of craic then it is a good shout if you’re nearby, but chances are you will find a better place to have a drink. Disappointing.
