I have always been a fan of the Chester, for many years! over the last 6 months i have been more than a few times and sadly to say each time i was less impressed! I started to vary my mains to see if the Chester can redeem itself to me. I have only one conclusion they must be cutting corners with the food and with the gentlemen who prepare it. I want nothing more than the Chester to go back to its glory days but i am afraid to say I only see dark times ahead for management unless they pull there socks up!

I have never had a bad meal at the Chester. The menu has something for everyone on it and I’m a picky eater. Family and friends all like it and the meals are competitively priced. Only short coming might be the portion sizes are rather large All in all a great little restaurant well worth a visit.

Great food! Horrible service. The wait staff is extremely slow and un-attentive. This is not a place to have dinner at if you’re in a hurry.

I’ve only been here a few times, so I’m not as much of an expert as other reviewers, but I still really like the Chester. I’ve been for a few family dinners and some work parties and I’ve never had any complaints. The food is pretty good pub grub, and since it’s so family friendly, it’s a good place for families to eat out on a Sunday. I can’t really comment on the club side of things, because I’ve never been. I always figured that since it was only 10 minutes from the city centre, I’d be better off going that bit further and having a bit more choice!

The Chester is a North Belfast favourite. It’s one of those places that you’re so used to that you just couldn’t give it a bad rating because you’ve never known any better. Think gastro pub to get an image of this place. There is a main pub and dance floor with a restaurant attached. The restaurant is my personal favourite, my only caution being that the portions are absolutely huge. I don’t mean huge in a good way; I mean so huge that when they served me the ‘baby trout’, they had to do it across two plates because it was 3 foot long. Fantastic for food, not so fantastic for a night out, unless you’re hoping to watch the football.

Comprising of a restaurant, a bar, nightclub, a private function room and an off sales and beer garden, The Chester is always busy. The restaurant offers good, hearty food at affordable prices and good value for money, and I’ve always enjoyed any food I’ve had here, but one downside I’ve experienced is that it’s such a ‘family’ place that it can sometimes feel a little like a crèche, with too many unsupervised kids running around because their parents are tucking into their Chicken Kiev and have forgotten about them. The bar area is warm, inviting and has plenty of seating — and TVs to watch football and the occasionally show music videos when there is no sport on. The Blind Tiger Lounge next door offers a more nightclub feel, with a dance floor area(quite small) and chart/pop music. It’s designed to look like a very über-modern, stylish place, but the crowd can be quite ‘local’ — not the most sophisticated of clientele, but not scary either, if that makes sense. The Chester is kind of treated as a Saturday night venue for ‘clubbing’ it when people couldn’t be arsed to go into town to go to a proper nightclub. It’s not a bad venue, but I can think of more exciting places to go where you’re not mown down by kids in the restaurant.
