I’d never been to Ginger before so was looking forward to trying it out. A quick scan over the menu revealed lots of fish/sea food, including Creamy seafood chowder, Crispy skin fillet of sea bass, Local fillet of skin-on cod and the Whole fish of the day. There was also a large dedicated vegetarian menu, which had a noteworthy 6 starters and 4 mains– which delighted the vegetarian in our company. I picked my starter from said vegetarian menu, deciding upon the warm salad of fried Cheddar fritters with pear purée, beetroot and rocket. For mains, it was back to the main menu for Ginger marinated breast of chicken with stir fried bok Choi, roasted peanuts, pineapple and noodles. The fresh flavours of the chicken dish was particularly impressive. We all gave Ginger a thumbs up– especially for the good choice of dishes available to diners. The restaurant has a pre-theatre meal so worth trying out if you’re heading over to a show.

Haven’t been here in a while, but when I was there the food was beautiful! Quite a trendy wee spot, with niknaks all around giving that shabby chic vibe that seems to be most places. The servers were lovely, welcoming and the prices weren’t too bad either

My girlfriend and I stopped in for desserts. She still has cravings for them and places their sticky toffee pudding as the best she’s ever had. Great atmosphere and good service. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

I’ve eaten here several times now and couldn’t fault it. The staff are lovely and very welcoming when you arrive which makes for a great start to your evening. It’s always busy so prebook if you can. They offer a pretty great pre theatre menu with mains starting around £9. Good portion sizes too and their fish pie is gorgeous. Follow it up with the to die for sticky toffee pudd if you can manage it! The restaurant isn’t very big but tables are well spaced out so you’re not up close and personal with other diners(I hate that!) There’s some decent looking art on the wall all for sale I think. I’m usually lucky and get parked close by as I like to eat early. Later on it can be difficult to find a space. This restaurant provides consistently great food. Try it. You won’t be disappointed

I’ve been wanting to try Ginger Bistro for ages and managed to do so last night. I was delighted to discover they offer a full dedicated vegetarian menu and even more impressed when I spotted a couple of vegan options listed as well. The restaurant itself is charming, cosy, quirky and inviting with beautiful art hanging on sunny yellow walls, wooden flooring, warm lighting and an open kitchen so you can watch the Chefs work their magic. It has a relaxed atmosphere but also feels like a special, luxurious place to dine. The two gentlemen who served us were friendly, helpful and chatty without being intrusive — I would rate the service as the best I’ve experienced in any restaurant. I ordered a starter of asparagus tempura with Asian salad which was fresh and tangy, main of sweet potato and chickpea fritters on a deliciously mild creamy spinach curry and a luscious melt in the middle chocolate pudding with fresh strawberries, raspberries and cream for dessert. My dinning partners shared a starter of breads with tapenade which I sampled and would highly recommend for the fresh taste and exceptionally generous portion — literally a huge basket of individual baked breads. The food was out of this world in terms of quality and taste. It was utterly delectable. In my party of four people every one of us thought it the best food we have tasted in a very long time. We enjoyed our dining experience at Ginger Bistro so much that we are already planning a return visit. If you haven’t been I’d recommend you try it, as a meal here makes for an exceptionally enjoyable evening out. This is exactly how a restaurant should be — Ginger Bistro is absolutely perfect in every way.

We came to Belfast first time and found this place just by chance. Since we did not have reservation the host let us sit on the counter looking directly into the kitchen. It was such a great show to see all the chefs preparing food. It was just like the Iron Chef show on TV. We actually ordered different dishes to see how they were cooked. My favorite was dessert chef whose Banana Tarte Tatin was melt heavenly with each bite. The crème brûlée was torched to perfect brown, I called it a pyrotechnic cooking. The foods were great. All the three waitresses including ours were very attentive. It was I should say Irish charm From California USA we gave this place a full 5 stars

I’ve been here now for lunch and dinner(on two separate occasions) and find the food to be very good, worthy of their Michelin recommendations. However there is something that I just don’t like about it, I think it’s to do with the layout. There is very little atmosphere and both times its felt like it has been quite empty despite there being a good few people in it, there are two rooms which despite neither of them being full they randomly split the customers from one side to the other. I have sat in the right hand side of the restaurant on both occasions which feels like it should be used for over flow, next time I might ask to sit in the other side. The service lacked a bit of enthusiasm too. It is a shame that the atmosphere and service didn’t match the great food and this place would be on to a winner.

Great food that was nearly perfect. Service was not attentive — pretty much once to order, once to deliver, once for the check. And it was a relatively quiet night.

I have never had a bad meal in Ginger, which is as high praise as you can get in my book! Some places are hit and miss, but not here. I haven’t been for ages at night as I usually forget until the last minute and then they are booked up, but getting in at lunchtime is much easier. It is also half the price, approximately £12 for a main course but not half the care! They are licensed and although I don’t know much about grapes, I know the girls and I have consumed more bottles of the house white than I care to admit to. If you are in the area this cosy spot is the best you’ll get near the Golden Mile.

The name made me think it was a Thai restaurant or something similar but that’s not the case. The décor is «warehouse modern» so it makes for a relaxed surrounding but great for a business casual dinner. We were a group of about twenty but the service was attentive and everyone raved about their food. Starters(plenty of seafood on offer) were all great and substantial. Inasmuch as I was on a diet and trying to compensate for all the Guiness I had been drinking I had some type of vegetable pastry thing for a main — which was fresh & flavorful(which is not usually the case for veggie main courses). Highly recommend this place.

Very tasty. Very reasonable price. Very fresh local fish and seafood. Highly recommended for visitors. The waiters were very nice as well. And great relaxing atmosphere. Had my best Clam Chowder there!

Environment: Quaint little place. I like the décor and the interior colors. Service: The waiter was attentive, prompt and friendly. Foods: I order seared sea bass that came with dal baked with curry sauce. I am a fan of good and fresh fish. The sea bass was a little small and not particularly flavorful. It tasted like one that has been sitting in the freezer for quite a while. Not naturally sweet and has a hint of fishiness. This put me off quite a bit since they charged me 20 pounds for it. Not impressed with the food quality. We also ordered bread and they arrived cold. Again, I am not impressed. If the cold bread were on the house, I have no complaints but since I paid for it, I expected warm bread.

We had an absolutely delicious meal here last night recommended by a colleague, we weren’t sure what to expect but it was fantastic. The belly pork oh my god I’m actually salivating thinking about it a day later Great atmosphere, lovely staff, heavenly crème brûlée what more could you want?

Fantastic atmosphere for a small, quaint bistro. The décor is fresh and welcoming with cushions for extra comfort and fresh flowers for that something special. Staff were all very attentful and not overly so. All extremely polite, warm and engaging. Lots of choice on the menu which proved difficult in me making my mind up. Food itself was flavoursom, not a lot of talking from me which meant I enjoyed it! Only downside was the price, a little too pricey for what you get, but an excellent place to visit :)

I paid my first visit to Ginger last weekend and the verdict is that I will be back. I have to admit that I didn’t even know it was there until we were invited out by friends who took the initiative and booked the restaurant. Good for them. I would describe the interior as funky, not grand particularly but not scruffy either. The lighting is nicely dim, not dark and background music at just the right volume to create a buzz but not loud enough to make you shout to each other. So what about the food? I actually find it hard to nail down the style of cuisine as the menu seems to career around the globe. In some restaurants, such eclectic menus can mean that individual dishes can be weak. Happily that’s not the case with Ginger. You’ll find Asian style dishes like asparagus tempura with ginger pickles, a brief stop in Italy with pasta and pesto, a jaunt to blighty with roast pork and black pudding and a trip to the US of A for Cajun chicken salad. Phew. A huge range of flavours and the Indian spiced chicken I had with dhal was great. The husband had the sea bream and we shared a side of parsnip chips which were delish. Service was friendly and efficient and we paid just under £30 head for a main course and half a bottle of wine each. Not the cheapest in town but you could tell that the ingredients were fresh and good quality and the food prices were offset by a wine list which starts at £14.

It almost seems a pity that Ginger is tucked away off the thoroughfare of Great Victoria St and passing trade will be drawn to the showier, and inferior eateries that line the main drag. Maybe that’s a blessing as the bistro has managed to keep up its high standard of food and excellent service over the years and I’ve nary got a bad word to say about it. Last time I visited we had quite a large group out on a birthday treat and we really did have the perfect evening. As we rolled in after a few in the Crown, I felt the staff thought they might have their hands full that evening. Regardless the service was excellent as usual, good humoured and we were all well catered for. I had the steak which was as sublime as ever and the appreciative noises from the others showed they’d chosen wisely too. Simon the chef knew one of our party and popped out to say hello with a bottle of complimentary champagne which was a really nice and appreciative touch. Definitely an excellent evening in excellent surroundings. Pros: Great food, laidback vibe. Cons: Not that easy to find.

Ginger is a lovely little restaurant tucked away in a side street off Great Victoria Street. At the risk of sounding repetitive, it is expensive, but to be honest, I don’t mind paying for good quality food, and neither should you in this instance! Plus, it’s BYO, so you can save on the alcohol and it evens out. It’s relatively small on the inside, but this just makes it intimate. The menu is limited, but I often take this as a sign of a good restaurant. It means to me that the chef is actually cooking fresh produce, rather than defrosting and heating up! Ginger is a great place to go if you’re off to see something in the Opera House, as they have a pre-theatre menu(like most of the restaurants on Great Victoria Street do), but it’s also lovely for your evening meal. At £20 for the steak you wouldn’t do it every day, but every once in a while? Oh, go on, then!

Ginger Bistro is flipping expensive! I didn’t know this until I had sat down. In my ever thrifty student days I said to a girl I was dating that we should call in for a bite. I ate super noodles for lunch and dinner for a week afterwards. However, despite the price, the food was amazing. Everything was cooked perfectly. I begun to think that maybe they charge so much because they know they can afford to with food of this quality. On top of this, the décor was very cool, the atmosphere relaxed and the staff were just brilliant. The high priced food made me look a little bit showy and got me in the good books with the girl, so maybe they can use that an excuse as well!
