A great quality tool shop that’s been in business for 120 years. Staff will try to help you with anything you need, if they don’t have it in store they will try to order it for you.

You want a hammer? These guys have it! You want to know if it’s Rawl or Wall plugs? these guys know it! there not much left in the way of Hardware shops in the city center but for most things these guys have you covered. the staff are super helpful and, most importantly, not condescending! A real wee gem when you need some screws and a pair of safety goggles.

This hardware store is a great place to buy all your DIY tools. The prices are a lot more competitive than the bigger stores. My dad always used to shop here for all the stuff he needed when I was younger and when I grew up I have tried to keep up the tradition. For me anyway it is great to go into a shop like this and find staff that are able to help you with the DIY problems that you are faced with. Helping you to get what you need for the job at hand. It feels great coming out a hardware store with all the tools needed and prepared for a full day of DIY-ing! Recently we build an entire flat pack wardrobe and the help we got in the store made it just that little bit more manageable.

W M McMaster’s is like a hardware store out of an American Sitcom. Except the sweet old man, is a rather touchy old man who looks like he lives, eats and sleeps within the shop. It’s good to have a wonder around, it stocks absolutely everything conceivably needed for home D.I.Y and rent’s a lot of the larger power tools out which is a great money saver. I’ve only came in here to buy paint brushes but the guy(who I think is the owner) gave me some sort of quiz as to the type, length and flexibility of the brushes I required. I’m not sure if he was helping me or exposing my complete lack of knowledge on the manly task of D.I.Y, but he got me just what I needed and even thought it appropriate to give me a huge rant on maintenance of my cheap set of brushes.
