Balloon Away

Balloon Away is a little balloon and fancy dress shop on York Road in Kings Heath.
There is an extensive selection of balloons for any occasion, plenty of party favours, masks, fake moustaches etc. and a decent selection of fancy dress costumes.
I’ve often come to Balloon Away as a last resort when I couldn’t find a fancy dress costume for a party and they’ve saved the day! For such a small shop the selection is pretty decent. In the past I’ve hired a Marilyn Monroe costume, pirate costume and bought various wigs and accessories. I don’t think I’ve ever actually bought a balloon but it looks like there’s plenty on offer.
All in all a great little shop with a good selection of fairly priced goods and very helpful staff.

It is rare that I enter a party or special occasions store. They’re just places I seek out — I am more repelled by a shop full of trifles that get thrown away after a few hours of ineffectual use.
However taking a more active role in a special occasion, I was sent on a mission to get some balloons personalised. Well, there was no more perfect store that Balloon Away to do such a task. They personalised 5 balloons that I assembled myself with their very detailed make your own balloon option, they filled them with helium and I was on my way — job done.
I was impressed by their service and the products as was the person who allocated me with this duty. I’ll probably never go there again, but if I need some bespoke balloons and some typical party bits and bobs, I’ll certainly head to balloon away.

For my friend’s 21^st birthday I thought it would be a great touch to get some personalised balloons and having a shop local to me that did exactly that was a real find because it starts getting complicated when you order things like ready blown up balloons online to be posted when you’re in. I ordered a massive ‘2’ and ‘1’ filled with helium with my friend’s name printed on them. They were ready at the right time and actually stayed up longer than the woman said they would. Just looking around the shop I couldn’t help chuckling to myself at all the hilarious fancy dress items. On the same day I collected my order there was another woman waiting to collect something like 40 balloons for a wedding reception. They cater for all sorts of events and the price is very reasonable.

Balloon Away cater for parties, weddings, anniversaries, and any other occasion where you might want some, er… balloons. The service is first class. They will make each order in a totally bespoke manner for you, so you choose the colour and design of balloon, the colour of the string, decide what shape and design of weight you would like and then if you wany the balloons to be filled ‘high float’ or not. (This is a term for when the balloons are filled with slightly more helium for a longer-​lasting floating ability.)
Balloon Away also has a small fancy dress section with costumes and accessories to fit most common current themes like pirates, 70’s etc.
