My favourite ballet company! Since I moved to Birmingham around two years ago, I have not missed a single BRB production. The company is completely spoilt for choice in terms of the talent and variety of their dancers. From established principals like the lyrical Momoko Hirata, the exquisite Celine Gittins(who really should be a principal), new choreographers such as Kit Harrington, and brand new talent like Miki Mizutani and Laura Day, this company has an almost embarrassing wealth of talent. Even if you have never watched a ballet before, I urge you to book tickets for BRB. The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, or company director David Bintley’s Beauty & the Beast represent an easy entry into ballet for anyone. BRB have a wonderful range of styles from the 19th century classics, to Ashton works and new contemporary pieces. Perhaps they do favour towards works choreographed by Bintley himself — but he is the company’s artistic director and can work so closely with the dancers on his original choreography — and their quality shines through!

Birmingham Royal Ballet has to be one of the biggest jewels in Birmingham’s cultural crown. Although the company itself has been around since the 1930s, it’s only been a Birmingham-based ballet company since 1990. Since then, it’s won critical acclaim from all over the world for its performances, as well as its Education and training programmes. One the UK’s top ballet companies, its performances always dazzle, and its commitment to this art form is evident, with ambitious excellence at the heart of all their productions. Their medical team also runs The Jerwood Centre for the Prevention and Treatment of Dance Injuries, which contains state-of-the-art diagnostic and fitness equipment.
