Boundary Sports is a strange place. Not strange because the shop itself is odd, but strange because of it’s location. Station Road is a residential street just off the Kings Heath High Street, the terraced houses are tightly packed and the street is ALWAYS full of cars. So, halfway down, as you’re waiting for the oncoming traffic to negotiate the poor parking of others, you spot a really good Sports shop. I’m sure that years ago, before the High Street really took hold, that these side streets were littered with small shops such as this, so I’m glad Boundary is keeping that going. The staff are friendly and will help you get whatever it is you need. As they only have a small amount of stuff on display you may need to order if you want something specific. That wait, however, is better than schlepping into the city centre and fighting your way around JJB Sports.

Bailey has just got into cricket in a big way and he’s wanting a bat. Boundary Sports is the bet place to go, his friends have told him as this shop specialises in cricket equipment.(They also deal in hockey, netball, football and rugby equipment and kit). It doesn’t take the owner long to come over to assist. He’s accommodating and gives Bailey the low-down on the many bats that are in stock. He is also measure so that he bat is the right size for his body. Bailey has made a decision and picks a Blade grade 1 Willow bat. ‘Young man’, the owner delivers in fatherly tones, ‘You aren’t buying a bat from here before trying it out. He then takes the boy to a large area at the rear of the shop, and bowls Bailey some balls! The bat is £110 but we have £75 to spend. ‘Let’s call it £85′ says the owner, ‘And I’ll knock it in for you. He does and adds a net into the bargain too. This is simply the best customer service ever.

Boundary Sports first came to my attention when I played for a local youth football team and they kindly agreed to be our shirt sponsor. They provided us with some excellent kits and seemed to be genuinely good people. As the name would suggest Boundary Sports does not focus on football matters but are actually local providers of cricketing equipment. Formally the Boundary Sports store was on the Pershore Road however a few years ago they upped sticks and moved to Station Road in the Kings Heath Area. Station Road is a residential road and as such it would be easy to pass by Boundary without even acknowledging its existence that however would be a big mistake. This place provides an array of high quality cricket equipment and is easily a match for many larger sports retailers. The people in Boundary are always friendly and also extremely knowledgeable meaning they are a very useful tool for cricket novices such as me. This is a fantastic little sports store which probably deserves a far higher profile than it currently demands.
