I came in here the other day after an enjoyable walk around Digbeth. I spent some time at Suki10c and admired the industrial architecture of the area. I was starving by the time I got to Chris’s Café and ordered the Full English with extra black pudding. I didn’t really enjoy the black pudding this time, it lacked depth of flavour. The café has a nice warm and homely feel to its no frills surroundings; the prices were pretty good too. I enjoyed my cup of tea and felt full and in instant need of a post Full English cigarette. I could eat a Full English every day. I wouldn’t however; it would be far too harmful to my health.

This is as no frills as it gets with greasy spoons in the Digbeth area. Really cheap but you get exactly what you pay for. I had a full English but being a vegetarian(there’s no option for a veggie breakfast) | asked if I could swap the bacon and sausage for extra mushrooms and egg. After some confusion(why wouldn’t a vegetarian want his bacon? Can’t vegetarians eat bacon?) the order was placed, I sat down with my milky tea and my plate was promptly plopped in front of me. It was all there, nothing to write hope about but nothing to complain about either. The guy serving was a nice enough chap, the place could do with a bit of renovation but judging by how many years it has been there I’m going to assume that the owner knows what he’s doing and what the regulars expect. |’m not a hater of greasy spoons, quite the opposite, but Chris’ doesn’t have quite what it takes to make me give a full thumbs up. There are other options in Digbeth(not too many now though, unfortunately) that I would rather go for.

If you’re in a central area of any big city then reasonably priced food of a decent quality can be hard to come by, that’s why when I saw the prices in Chris’s Café of Digbeth I decided I should give it a go. With offers such as a burger(choice of chicken or beef) with chips and a drink for three pounds sixty nine I figured I couldn’t go wrong, and I was right! The food was good and if you don’t feel like a burger they do a tasty fry up as well as a selection of sandwiches, as should any respectable café. The place itself is small and unassuming, which I liked and I can safely say that I would recommend Chris’s to anyone who’s traipsing around the Digbeth area in search of a bargain meal.
