I’ve frequented handsowrth pool and LC since it opened in i985 only because it is local. It is a dire experience! The staff are all-too-often indiferrent, insulent and inefficient; that is just the unreception. I’ve repeorted this to the manager and area manager but it remains very poor indeed. The facility is dirty, with bugs still in the cubicles long after I’d repeorted thiis. Walk in your bare feet at your peril, The entire building and visit is a real downer. No natural light except and 20 year late addition of a window to the kids’ pool. No artificial lights in the dry dressing room for last 2 visits, just a bleak opaque window slot at ceiling, It’s only saving grace is that it is ‘free’ 10 – 4 most days. No-one in their right mind would pay. I often leave feeling worse than when I arrived. I Complained to the councillor in charge 2 years-ago, eventually the Council Lesiure officer who checked it out, told me she didn’t know much about Bimingham Lesiure facilities as she normally uses LA Fitmess! Still no better, alas.

I thought I was the only one to find most of the staff’s attitude completely unacceptable. You are treated like cattle as they try their best to keep things running in this overcrowded farce of a gym. The staff have an obsession with cleaning so that keeping the floors clean is more important then whether I have a good work out. Their priorities are completely out of sync with those of the paying customer. I refuse to work out here and instead catch the bus/a lift to Perry Beeches. Cleaner, more up-to-date, less people. What more could you want?

The leisure centre is brill MINUSTHEGYM! The gym is awful, worse gym in Birmingham, the equipment is 90% Victorian, and they have a few new treadmills, other than that you’d be pushed for a modern gym experience. The staff I encountered here were amongst the most unfriendly people I have ever had the misfortune of meeting! The gym is just too busy for its actual capacity and the ‘instructors’ don’t excersize the ‘20min per machine at busy times’ rule. A complete waste of money, first time I have been there and certainly the last! AVOIDGYM at all costs, you’ll thank me for it!

Another of the council funded leisure centres, and there is little difference in quality. There’s a large range of facilities on offer, with badminton courts, squash courts, tennis courts, coupled with a fully equipped gym and swimming pool. However, the motto really must be ‘cheap and cheerful’, fairly old and worn, but you really can’t complain with the £30 monthly membership price. However, be warned the centre gets very busy on week nights, and the car park is often completely full. There is very limited car parking in the surrounding areas as well, so I would avoid coming after 5/6pm on weeknights. Obviously this means that the facilities are really busy at this time as well, making the experience overly stressful. There are also a variety of sports clubs that run through the leisure centre, such as the waterpolo club, boxing club and running club. All information for these groups are adverstised within the leisure centre, but just ask a member of staff for more info, they will be very happy to help out. opening hours: Monday 7am 10pm Tuesday 7am 10pm Wednesday 7am 10pm Thursday 7am 10pm Friday 7am 10pm Saturday 8am 5pm Sunday 7am 5pm
