That is the first time I ate such traditional Chinese hotpot, when I came to the UK. And the music there is brilliant!

You can always tell it’s going to be a quality chinese take away by the amount of chinese people eating there. Everytime I’ve been here or even walked past there’s always people in here eating. The food is delicious but I think I secretly enjoy the karaōke more! I cannot sing to save my life but you can’t beat the atmosphere when all your friends start howling away at the top of their lungs! The food is reasonably priced and I’ll be taking my mum there next time shes in town.

I visited here for my friend’s birthday where some of the group came for the buffet meal in the upstairs restaurant and the rest came for the karaōke later on. I did not eat there myself so I cannot comment upon the food, however I can recommend the karaōke! Rather than singing in one room where you have to take turn with a bunch of strangers, Hang Li Poh has several private rooms you can book out. They have a decent selection of songs as our group sang everything from The Backstreet Boys to Nirvana to Shirley Bassey! The last time I did karaōke you had to flick through a book to see which songs were available and the owner of the machine would programme in your selection. Here there is a small computer in the wall for you to tap in your choice. However this was not without glitches as several times a Chinese version of Happy Birthday would start blasting out! You have to be very careful when you’re trying to load your song of choice whilst someone else is singing as I found out to my misfortune as you can accidently switch of their song as they are mid performance. Its quite relaxed and a fun environment so much so that I even belted out a few tunes alongside some friends we went for Petula Clark’s Downtown, B52’s Love Shack and Blondie’s Heart of Glass.

First things first, as is the case with most of China town the food at Hang Li Poh is good quality and you can pick up a starter, main course and free glass of wine for twelve ninety nine. In my book that’s not too bad although there are cheaper places nearby. The reason I like Hang Li Poh so much is due to the fact that not only is it a Malaysian restaurant, it is a karaōke bar as well! To some people this would be their worst nightmare, but I am an unashamed karaōke lover and cannot think of anything better than being able to eat a good meal, have a few drinks and finish it all off by murdering some classic karaōke tunes. It’s something of a novelty I suppose but that is even more of a reason not to let Hang Li Poh pass you by!
