Sunday’s quite simply need a decent brunch. Today a friend and I decided we would see what Home had to offer. The decoration here is excellent, mismatched furniture gives a really cozy and friendly feel to the restaurant area and a great selection of light background music creates and laid back feel… perfect for Sunday! I decided to have the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. The eggs and salmon were excellent but were sadly let down by sliced white bread with no option to change to brown or granary when ordering. My friends sausage and onion sandwich looked excellent… the food envy was very real. Overall good, just sadly not excellent.

Finally went to Home Café, been willing to go for months. I was around Colmore row midday and decided it was about time to go. Everytime I go it’s always been super busy. Well… this time is same but I was not going to give up. Managed to find a table right at the front(the only table available) Ordered French toast with berries and Chai Latte. Visually the food look just lovely. And taste-wise it was just as good. I’ve had many french toasts from different cafes and this is by far the best I’ve had. Would recommend going to anyone. Next time I want to try their main course to see how good they are. Sounded delicious from what I read on menu :)

I have rewrite this review as I think my first one did not tell you enough about the place. A fun looking place in one of the best roads in Birmingham, you can expect something different from your usual coffee shop. That’s right, very slow services and rubbish coffee. Oh and a big bill to backup the rubbish time you have had here. I have been here a number of times and said I would not go back after I had to wait 30 minutes for a bacon sandwich. It took so long my coffee was cold and I could not be bothered with it. However I was taken in here by my boss before an early morning meeting. I told him we would not have time if we wanted breakfast but he want to try it out for himself. I ordered a sausage roll and my boss ordered smoked salmon and eggs. We paid and with the 2 drinks it was the best part of 20 pounds. 815am. By 845am we had are food, my bosses was cold and the scrambled eggs had a skin on them. Mine was hot but was dry at one end of the roll like it had been sat under a heat lamp for a long time. We did not have time to complain and just put up with it. As we was about to go I unfortunately had a call on national and had to visit the bathroom. I went down stairs to the bathroom and was not expressed. I had no choice and sat down… I bet you know what’s next… Yes I checked and there was no toilet paper. The only good thing about the place is you get signal in the basement so I looked up there number. They answered and I told them my predicament. They had a look and they had run out of toilet paper so I would have to uses napkins. I walked out of the toilet and there was the toilet check list with a name in the 8am check. Walk out of the place, late for my meeting and very enbarrest. This place is trying to be something it’s not. My advice is sick to what you are good at. I hope you find it soon

So we went here right(accidentally as I was looking for Urban coffee which is next door) and ordered 2 take away sandwiches and a coffee. They had two tables in, one of 8 grown men who had all ordered milk shakes. They said because of this that our food and coffees would take half an hour. There were three staff on. Due to this we got our money back and went next door. Also they do not list ‘flat white’ as a coffee option and they don’t have a proper coffee machine so if you coming here for coffee maybe go next door. I hope they were excellent milkshakes. Lots of nice cured sausage and home made sauces etc to buy from here placed all around the café. Menu consists mainly of sandwiches and things on toast. Very, very busy décor. A big table in the middle perfect for 8 milkshake fans.

The french toast is… sensational. So good, I had it twice in one weekend. I just love the style of the place with the different chairs and the wall of photos including old hollywood stars. I prefer it to the Urban Coffee Company that is next door.

I immediately warmed to this café as soon as I stepped through the door, and felt like I was in some trendy New York café like the one on friends… well I was except I just wasn’t in New York! There is plenty of comfortable seating and plenty of food and beverage options. You order at the till and they kindly bring your order to your table. I only had a hot chocolate this time round, but it was really delightful. My friend actually said it was the best hot chocolate she had ever had! The guy who collected our mugs, was pretty chuffed with this compliment. They sell some produce here such as bottles beers, balsamic vinegars and… hmmm that’s all that I can remember catching my eye! There is only one toilet here, which is a downfall and as a result there was a little queue. The chef seemed like a happy chappy, and stopped to talk for a little while. I would most definitely be back for a slice of cake or for their all day breakfast. A lovely addition to the city centre. I hope it stays.

Now, the end of 2014 bought a bit of a sense of adventure to my working day as I wanted to check out as many places as possible. After checking out Home in Feb 2014(when it had just opened), I figured it would be worth a revisit to see if it had settled and found it’s place in the coffee places of the Colmore Business District… I am pleased to say it’s now another«afternoon office» spot! To give you some insight, I don’t have a set office space. As I don’t like sitting on my arse at home on the sofa when working, I tend to wander the coffee shops of the City in the afternoon finding a place to lay down my hat and get on with my work. Now, I initially did write this place off(as it’s a bit too kitsch for my liking), but I don’t know whether my tastes have changed or if it’s changed(just a little) to fit most of my needs. I don’t ask for much… Reasonably priced tea/coffee, strong WiFi and a few people around me and Home now delivers on all fronts. Tea isn’t as cheap as some of venues around here, but it does come in a proper tea pot and normally provides at least 3 full cups — so I can work on a pot for around 1.5 hours. The WiFi has significantly improved since my last review and is strong and predictable(well, enough for my needs). I do wish there were more powerpoints(I normally end up on a table by the door), but at least there ARE places to plug in which are suitable for gigantic Mac chargers. There has been a few changes to the décor since it first opened… I love the picture frame nearest the tills. I spotted on my last visit that this was actually a TV and they sometimes show a film in the background. The cakes have gotten better too! The muffin I enjoyed on my last visit was moist, fresh and very tasty. Unlike some venues, I’ve never had trouble finding a seat here. The service is warm, welcoming and cheery too. Now, this isn’t a regular hangout for me(as I’m all over the City on any given day), but I will tend to gravitate to Home if I’m ever this neck of the woods and in need of a place to grab a warm drink and strong WiFi. Recommended!

Right next door to Urban Coffee. I’ve not been here much so will need to update my review at some point. The décor is homely(not surprisingly) but fun and quite quirky-brightly coloured and busy! They do a reasonable selection of teas coffees, cakes, pastries and sandwiches. I also notice they do an interesting mix of sharing platters, which I think would be great at lunchtime! Always fairly busy when I go past, but not too hard to get a seat.

I’d been meaning to pop into Home Café Deli for a while now and today was the day. I must say, I’m impressed with what I found. I came in here for lunch and made the mistake of not grabbing a table and looking at the menu before ordering so I was faced with the blackboard over the serving counter which is chock-full of all-day breakfast options, sandwiches and salads. In a slight panic and a bit overwhelmed, I decided on a «croque monsieur(or as we Brummies know it — ham & cheese toastie)» — that is actually what it’s called! Although I just said ‘croque monsieur’ myself. Oh and I ordered an americano too. It all came to under £5 so that in itself was a pleasant surprise. My order taken, I was told to take a seat and the food would be right over. I took that opportunity to visit the toilet, which was clean if a little basic and unisex, not that I have a problem with that. That taken care of, I didn’t have to wait long for my drink to arrive and my food followed shortly after — it looked delicious! I took a quick snap for Unilocal but I couldn’t wait to dig in. I wasn’t disappointed either — the cheese was nicely melted and the ham tasted like it was good quality. I appreciated the choice of white or brown bread too as I’m a big fan of brown bread. My americano was also tasty — not bitter and nice and strong, just like it should be. I would definitely come back here for coffee. As I’m sitting here working and Unilocal!ing, the smell wafting over is divine — this may be the only down side as I’m getting hungry again! To top it all off, there’s free wifi and power points, the atmosphere is homely and the décor is eclectic. In short, I love it. [EDIT] Unfortunately I’ve had to remove a star from my review because the Wi-Fi wasn’t suitable for Skype meetings. It was servicable for other, less intensive work but stear clear otherwise!

The décor in this place is absolutely fantastic It’s eclectic, it’s humorous, it’s rustic, it’s vibrant and HOMEly. This is my favourite spot for lunch in the city centre. The coffee is good, the price is good, the food is amazing! It is popular at typical lunch times, so I tend to eat early or late If I go here so as I know I am more likely to find a table. It’s a place that words can’t do justice to, you just have to try it!

This place looks ace, like a slightly strange old bake house. It has a fairly substantial food menu mainly on the sandwich and salad side. It’s a deli and does a good job with a nice range of baked goods etc. I didn’t have space for one after my salad and cupcake but the milkshakes sound good! It was a good place to meet up with family and another good place to settle in with a laptop or book I think. I like that they let me book a table when I called in advance, too. So why did I give them 3 stars? Service was very, very slow!

Great cosy little café selling sandwiches(including fish finger sanwiches), pastries, cakes, nibbles and salads. Ecclectic seating. Always bustling and warm, which was great in the winter months! Fast friendly service. Is also a deli selling pastas and sauces and the like. Recommended! I don’t drink coffee but their website says this: Coffee We use a house blend of Brazilian, Indonesian and African cofffee beans, roasted dark to give you the best possible flavour. You can buy other beans from all over the world instore, just talk to our staff.

Filled with a desire to try somewhere new this afternoon, we popped along to Home Café Deli for a cup of tea, and, to be honest, to enjoy the eclectic décor! I had peered in through the door here a few weeks ago but didn’t have time to actually go and in and check it out properly, and wanted to return. It’s the sort of place that you could probably visit regularly and still find something new to see. If you like everything matching and coordinated, then this will offend, as it’s full of a variety of chairs and tables, stunning benches, wonderful mirrors, delightful pictures, oh and don’t miss the TV inside a stunning frame by the side of the counter. It’s a big open space with plenty of seating and the menu looks great. This time, we didn’t eat as had already done so earlier, but I will be going back. The service was friendly and efficient and its a very enjoyable environment in which to spend a couple of hours.

This is my kind of place. An eclectic style of mismatched furniture where nothing really matched but at the same everthing seemed to go with each other. A particular favourite of mine was the Che Guevara wallpaper which you passed by as you went to the loo downstairs. I can’t comment on the coffee but my friend and I ordered early grey tea and the teapot it came in was the biggest one I had seen. This was great for us as it meant we could have endless cups of tea. They provide soya milk free with no extra charge which is always a bonus for me. We shared the veggie platter as my friend is a vegan and he could actually eat most of what was served up eg houmus, warm bread rolls with oil, olives, marinated peppers, sundried tomatoes etc. The staff were really good beforehand checking what he could and couldn’t eat being a vegan. This is definitely a place you can come and chill out in, read the papers and just relax. It’s open until 7pm in the week and open on a Sunday. I will be back and will sample more things on the reasonably priced menu.

I haven’t eaten here as yet but the menu looks good. Nice atmosphere and clean. Free WiFi and carafes of water with glasses on each table. I’d rather go to Home Café Deli than Urban Coffee Co. next door.

Slight invested interest in that my sister manages it: P, but still a great place to do lunch at work, or afterwork for some coffee and cake.

Newly opened today! Well, technically not opened yet as they’re just having a soft launch today with the official opening on Monday. Inside is spacious with plenty of tables if you’d like to take a seat but they are set up efficiently for a take-away lunch, with 3 staff ready to serve behind the counters. That bit reminds me of Prêt a Manger but the non-matching seating makes me think of a seaside café; no matching brown leather chairs in here! The vibe is much more a café although it’s very much like some coffee shops I’ve been in across America. There are plenty of lunch combos to choose from as well as baked goodies with small croissants priced at a reasonable £1.30. My coffee & tea cake came to £4.50 but I think where these guys will do well is with their food with an array of sandwiches freshly made around the £5 mark and meals such as Tuna Nicoise or quiche and salad at under £7. They have a coffee loyalty card too and you only have to buy 6 to get your free one!
