Nice Café, that does good food at reasonable prices. Sausage or Bacon Sarnie is £2.00 and they do a variety of sandwiches, hot and cold. The breakfast is good and sorts you out if your hung over or just hungry! The all day breakfast is less than £4.00 — this is 2 sausage 2 bacon rashers 1 fried egg beans fried tomato and 2 toast with choice of tea, coffee or Juice to accompany it. The next size up — The Builders breakfast — which is basically everything everything in an all day breakfast with fried bread and black pudding. This is less than £5. The Biggest breakfast is the Hungry Hobbit Breakfast which is the all day but double of everything(only if your feeling like Man vs Breakfast) Worth checking out. Service is good — the response i got from staff after eating my all day was ‘Blimey…you absolutely devoured that!’ It didn’t touch the sides — as it was good!

I often comment on how little Birmingham has cashed in on the success of the Lord Of the Rings films, with Tolkien growing up in the city and drawing inspiration for the film from some of the locations in the city. One exception is the Hungry Hobbit, located within a goblin’s spit off Sarehole Mill, The Hungry Hobbit offers a good solid breakfast and a cup of tea to stop you inner orc grumbling. The Hungry Hobbit serves good honest grub and with the Hobbit film fast approaching maybe Birmingham can see some Tolkein comenack afterall!

Despites any polemic involving the name of this establishment I would emphasise The Hungry Hobbit worth visiting exclusively because its food and service. The breakfast offers include all sizes and tastes options, catering for vegetarians and the ones keen on a complete builder’s brekkie. In my first visit to the Hungry Hobbit I have chosen the veggie one and I was not disappointed. The veggie sausage was decent and together with a good cup of coffee it were a good way of starting the day. The price is also okay if compared to any other veggie friendly café in Brum. I do recommend this small coffee shop and sandwich bar located in Moseley. They have an impressive menu, the service is excellent as well as all the buzz about the Hobbit issues adds to the whole experience. Anyone interested or not in Tolkien should pay a visit to The Hungry Hobbit but better to make it soon before license rights can take it away from us.

Subject to a 2012 legal row for unauthorised use of the hobbit brand, the hungry hobbit is a café situated near Sarehole Mill and Moseley bog. They do a good breakfast here with a surprisingly generous vegetarian option and it’s worth a visit for the wallpaper alone(London Routemaster buses feature heavily). It’s a well frequented spot with outside tables that afford you a nice view of the Co-Op opposite and it’s just up the road from Sarehole Mill and Moseley Bog. Jacket potatoes, pies and salad are also available and the staff are friendly and chatty. The tea is also brilliantly strong. Recommended.
