I tend to give my ratings taking into account the price paid and how the hotel is marketed. This is a hotel on the outskirts of Birmingham where you get to stay for approximately £40/night. For that price, I do not expect a spa or 5 star hotel amenities! What I did get for my £40 was a comfortable and squeaky clean room. I emailed ahead of time to ask a few questions and they were answered promptly and cheerfully by Damien. Getting to the hotel isn’t that easy on foot(I was coming from New Street station) so would suggest a taxi if you don’t know the area. My welcome at reception was warm and the friendliness continued with the chatty guy in the lift who was repairing a sign. My room was basic but had everything I needed. It was spotless with a little pod bathroom making great use of space-the shower was particularly spacious. A kind of universal cleaning gel was provided for the sink and shower. I loved showering there: great power! My bed was comfortable(would have preferred a top sheet though) and liked the free and fast wifi. The TV had basic channels but enough to amuse me for the night. No mini fridge but tea and coffee making facilities. When I went downstairs to ask for a few more tea bags and milks, the lovely guy on reception gave me lots so I was extremely content! They also helpfully booked a taxi for me the next morning which was bang on time/early. Minor complaint: hairdryers are not provided in rooms but are meant to be available at reception. They were all gone when I tried to get one on a Sunday evening. Not ideal! Had to go to my job interview with slept-in hair. Not part of my initial master plan. I really think they need to invest in a few more. FYI: –no irons in the room but there’s an ironing room on level 2 –there is no room service but you can get a(limited) range of meals downstairs and are free to take them away with you.

No one stays here for a quiet getaway that’s for sure. The hotel is located just on the edge of the city centre and very close to the Birmingham City Football Stadium. It is very noisy here, yet that has to be expected as i stated no-one is there for a quiet time. The location makes the hotel very convenient as the city is very accessible from here. The prices are amazing considering where it is based, I paid £42 with an advanced booking for one night. The hotel is clean and tidy and could not find criticism for this hotel. The staff at reception were very friendly as I was greeted with a smile and a warm welcome.

I used to stay in Ibis Hotels in France a lot when I was kid, so I was quite pleased when they crossed the channel and opened branches here in the UK. They offer a budget hotel experience that is a cut above the likes of Travelodge and Premier Inn. This branch is located on the very edge of the city centre, near the Birmingham City football ground. It is a bit of a way out, but it is a good choice if you are after a cheap overnight pit stop. The reception area is bright, clean and modern, whilst the rooms have everything you need for a good nights kip.

Ibis is a budget chain of hotels, which you find in all the major cities of the UK. I’m reviewing this one in particular because it’s by far the most impressive of all the Ibis hotels I’ve stayed at. You’re located on the edge of the city centre so you’re a convenient distance from shopping and night life without the hustle. There is ample, free parking and good bus routes nearby. However, the Birmingham City Football Ground is a stone throw away so do your research into whether a match is on because it can get extremely busy. The hotel has a café and bar area near the reception. The rooms are much more spacious than their other hotels, with a comfortably large bed and generous ensuite. The shower is huge and could easily accommodate three people… well that’s down to your discretion! The rooms are clean and well maintained. Every staff member I came across was cheerful and friendly. A good budget stay!
