I have never had such high end Indian dishes in my life. I have been all across India and never found such gourmet delectable yummy wow wow… Go for the Lamb and or Salmon, holy cow alice. The cobra beer on tap blows kingfisher away… Nice ambiance, friendly knowledgeable staff and resonable prices make this place worth trying out… You won’t be disappointed…

It’s a 3 borderline 4 for me. I’ve been in a few times and thought the food was very decent and the service acceptable, tho nothing especially memorable. I have ordered home delivery too more recently and really the food wasn’t that great. Edible for sure but not particularly enjoyable. Maybe it was the food choices each time that made the difference, but certainly the home delivery didn’t have much Chicken in it and the sauce was way too watery and unflavourful for my liking. Milan is a long time occupant of its corner location on Newhall St and I remember the days when it was one of the classier choices around the JQ. I don’t really feel the same these days at all. The competition is far too sussed and so I suspect they need to up their game even if it means adding a few quid to the bill.

One of the better Indian restaurants Birmingham has to offer, although there is plenty of other options. Good prices for the quality of service and food!

Fabulous. Needed a quick lunch with a baby who was ready for nap. Did the lunch buffet-delicious. I can’t do dairy so they brought out a special dish of dairy free lentils for me. Nice selection of food. Chicken was moist delicious and spicy :) my husband said, «so we’ll eat here everyday right?» Only problem was we ran out of water and by the time we needed it the place was filling up and could no longer find a waiter.

£4.95 for an Indian Lunch Buffet whilst listening to Romantic Bollywood Hindi Songs… can’t go wrong really! Food is simple and variety is basic but you get to choose from a selection of starters before moving onto a veg and/or non veg main courses, along with lentil dahl which can be accompanied by naan and/or rice. They are constantly refilling the serving dishes so fresh food coming out all the time — amritsar fish was yummy and so was the chicken tikka. Forgot to mention the desert that’s included in the price too! You’ll find the gulab jamun and cold kheer with the rest being a selection of sweets from Costco! Everytime I’ve been in for lunch it’s busy with a mix of clientele. They also allow you to take out providing you with 2 tubs to fill to the max as you please… Enjoy.

No stars for the food, which borders on dreadful — dry, flavorless, and sitting out for hours at lunch, not even on a steam table.(How dry was the chicken tikka? Inedible.) One extra star for the service. And it’s cheap. But awful.

Curry is my favourite food and I really enjoy visiting this restaurant with ex work colleagues every couple of months. I have tried most of the spicy dishes and would recommend picking one of the chef’s specials. There is also a good value and very tasty lunchtime all you can eat buffet.

Milan is a great place too dine. I’ve heard of the Milan sweet centre on Soho Rd, but never of the restaurant. Apparently they are owned by the same people. The staff at the restaurant especially the manager and owner were more than helpful arranging a party for us. The starters included the best seekh kebabs I’ve ever tasted and you have to try their chilli paneer. Out of the curries surprisingly the vegetarian dishes were the best. The meat dishes and the jalfrezi wasn’t anything special, sometimes undercooked. I’ll be going back but this time would like to try the more flamboyant dishes as I’ve read here it’s where they seem to really stand out. I think it’s heavily overpriced. The food is not all that you can get better quality food for a cheaper bill at other places.

Whenever I go to an indian I always get the same — korma. Which I am fine with because I love it! But there is a tendency to not flavor the curry because it isn’t spicy. Here though the chicken korma was really nice, it had a nice depth of flavor and just a little bit of spice. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was really nice, nice big restaurant. Happy!

Very pleasant restaurant. Visited town for a night out with my wife, arrived early to have a quick bite to eat. Very welcoming and very nice food. I was also impressed with the prices what with it being town and all that.

Having lived in the JQ for 5 years, it was with trepidation that I first went to Milan on Friday. Two reasons I have never been before 1) From the outside, it looks run down and a bit grubby and2) Who names an Indian resturant Milan?! I am pleased to report that I was pleasantly surprised. Although the décor is quite outdated and looks cheap, the pistachio lamb shank was excellent and the keema nan was spicy and flavoursome. They were able to accommodate a group of 7 of us strolling in at 8pm on a Friday night and were attentive and helpful. My meal(lamb shank, fried rice, keema naan and a cola) was £20, which was worth it for the meal. Good food and a pleasant atmosphere, great location for a chilled out meal with friends.

I love my curries but they have to be good and the food at Milan delivered. The menu was extensive as with most Indian restaurants but the owner kindly made some suggestions. I went for the paneer as a starter, generous portions and delightly presented but most importantlyit tasted delicous. I had chicken jalfrezzi as my main and it was so tasty with the flavours completely fused in to the chicken. Pilau rice was nice, rather alot so I might have opted for the lighter safrron rice instead. Desert — there is always room for desert. I opted for the gulab jamun which was nice and warm served with icecream and another tasty winner! I would definitely recommend this place if you have an occassion and want to impress with great tasty food. The staff were very attentive and most helpful. Plus the 25% discount they offered was a lovely gesture.

Indian Dining at it’s best. A very tempting menu, with a wide range of dishes and special dishes recommended by the chef. Mainly north Indian style cuisine, however classic and fresh innovative dishes on the menu. The restaurant is of a respectable size with it’s open roomy layout and a decent bar. Cobra being the only beer available on draught, however bottled beers, cocktails, wine and spirits available. The food is mouthwatering, with graceful presentation and the perfect marriage of flavour and spice. I ordered the coriander malai chops, which was melt in the mouth lamb for starter. My main was the chefs recommended dish — Prawn Chilli Garlic, which was divine. My dessert of ras mallie was the best ras mallie I have tasted to date — light, elegant and orgasmic. The head chef and restaurant manager Parvinder Multani is renown for cooking in some of the top restaurants in India. If you join the mailing list you will receive a 25% discount voucher, which is valid until September 2013. This restaurant has been established for 25 years now and is Birmingham’s third oldest restaurant — this says it all really. Lunch time buffet available for £4.95 — 12:00 to 14:00 I highly recommend this restaurant.

The obligatory curry in Birmingham(well not the only one) On to Unilocal we go to spy out a great Curry House after a lovely afternoon in the Symphony Hall listening to a bit of folk, curtsy of The Cadbury Sisters. After the very high recommendations of Milan we trundle along. There were two big tables in this night, which meant there was a great atmosphere to the place. They sat them right at the back of the restaurant so it was all the atmosphere, none of the loud noises right next to you. Window side seat we perused the menu with excitement. With a great big choice of vegetarian options up for grabs we are happy Easter bunnies. Greatly appreciative of Cobra on draught opt for a beer and the Mrs a Mango Lassie — Yum. I’ve just got to mention, when it comes to curries — I’ve been spoilt. The Mrs lives in Southall which — hands down has the BEST curries in London — no argument. So as the food comes out I’m praying it all lives up to the hype. Starting lightly with a few poppadoms, the sauces that came out were just amazing. Spicy and creamy a complete world away from the dodgy mango chutney and onion pickle that’s the standard at these restaurants. You have to, simply have to have the stuffed baby aubergines and the paneer. So creamy and moreish, perfectly seasoned and just MMmmmm worthy. The paneer is again not the normal, slightly squeeky cheese smothered in tomato, but is smooth and beautifully textured. I’m not going to say its better than Southall curries, because they’re simply not the same, but the food is just beautiful. Our waiter was not the best. He was not very attentive at all and even argued with us about not wanting more rice(as it was I was right, we had enough). Still just as we were about to leave a lovely man which I assumed was the owner took our cheque and hoped we had a lovely evening. I’m still not convinced about the brown walls, but all together an A class experience.

Having walked past this restaurant many times, I thought it was about time to sample the tasty dishes I heard so much about. I booked a table for 7 of us for a Saturday evening, and whilst we waited for everyone to arrive we had a look through the menu — there was so much choice! The restaurant was filling up nicely as the evening went on, which is a good sign. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it, and is nicely decorated. We all decided to have some poppadoms to start, and the sauces that accompanied them were flavoursome and spicy. For my main I decided to have Chicken Tikka which was served with pilau rice and salad as well as seperate bowl for the chicken tikka sauce. Everyone was pleased with their food choices, and there was gasps of «WOW» and«this is lovely» as we tucked in. The service was very good, and they were able to recommend some dishes to us and attended to our every need. I will defintely be coming back, and would also like to try the all you can eat lunchtime buffet at the bargain price of £4.95!

Pathia Pizza? Balti Biscotti? Saag Spaghetti? Don’t worry, despite the potentially contradictory name Milan Indian Cuisine doesn’t actually do bizarre fusions of western and eastern flavours. However, the word ‘Milan’ might just give you a hint of the style that oozes from this classy Indian restaurant. The reception reinforces the point — high class furniture and exotic looking plants greets the hungry but sophisticated diners. The main restaurant gives more of the same — it’s all calming creams and fancy fawns. The trendy, young chef here has cut his teeth in restaurants in India, and the menu really reflects his exciting take on North Indian cuisine. When we visited I went for the Tandoori Barbeque Prawns. At £14.99, the prices are higher than the average curry or balti house in the city, but this extra cost only serves to reflect the qualities on offer at this restaurant. I washed down my Tandoori with a Milan Punch, their signature drink from a huge cocktail menu. I’m afraid this tipple must have been a bit too good, and quite strong, because I can hardly remember what went into it now! It was nice and refreshing though. Maybe I should go for something from the non-alcoholic cocktail menu when I go back

It’s been ages since I first went into Milan for their legendary all you can eat lunchtime buffet. This is unbelievable value at £4.95 ago and I keep saying as I live 5 minutes away that I should really do this once a week and fill up! The lunch is all good quality and with plenty of choice. However, last night, after another tiring week of us both working our socks off with numerous exiting projects on the go, and no food in the house, we decided to pop up for a pre Euro12 footie match dinner. On a hot day, I didn’t think anyone would want Indian cuisine but people soon started following us in. Anyway, inside in air conditioned and we were welcomed in despite it being 6pm! We had the obligatory poppadums with 3 lovely refreshing and/or fiery sauces and I had the char grilled salmon served with a perfect mound of rice and crisp salad with a hot sauce. He had a lamb dish with coconut and spices and we both washed down with lemon tinged non-alcoholic cocktails perfect for a warm evening. The service and food is excellent and highly recommended whether there are two of you or 12.

Milans Restaurant should not be mistaken with Milans Sweet Shop. The restaurant is non-vegetarian and they’re licensed to sell alcohol. The food is not Gujarati cuisine but focuses more on dishes from North India. This is an elegant restaurant located in the heart of the city. The ambience is subtly sophisticated and calming. The manager was very polite when I booked the table over the telephone and enquired about the occasion to see how they could best accommodate us. I thought this was good attention to detail. The food is delicious and rich with flavour. I would recommend the paneer shaslik, which is Indian cheese stuffed with spices and char-grilled. The char-grilled salmon was a dish I have never tried before and quite frankly I wasn’t quite sure whether cooking salmon in this way would be tasty. Turns out its a fabulously creative dish that is definitely worth tucking in to!

Milan has seemingly been around for ages, but I was put off going after a friend of mine gave it a rubbishing when I suggested a visit. Later, I was told about their lunchtime all-you-can-eat buffet, and given the fact I was working just round the corner at the time, I thought I’d give it a try. The interior, while a little dark, was well-presented and comfortable. Subtle, ambient music was used to good effect, giving the whole place a relaxing feel. The staff were friendly and attentive(although when I arrived, the waiters did outnumber customers). The food itself was nice enough. I’ve certainly had better, but given the nearby competition it’s hardly fair to criticize food at this price. There was a great selection of appetizers, mains and sundries, although the naan bread was limp and disappointing. The previous reviewer mentioned that the restaurant specializes in vegetarian food, and there were certainly more meat-free than meat dishes available. As a lunchtime option, especially one with table service and great variety, you can’t really go wrong with Milan. Not sure I’d choose it as an evening destination, but it’s certainly not as bad as I’d been led to believe.

A hidden restaurant really, but its brilliant, and can be very quiet before 7pm for a nice cosy meal. Prices are average for an Indian restaurant, and the food is delicious here! They even have a very good bar, something uncommon in Indian restaurants. Just like its take away store on Soho Road, this place is a little bit of heaven for vegetarians because that is the speciality of Milans. The place is clean, cosy and nicely decorated, you’ll enjoy a lovely meal here in warm surroundings.
