Went here the second time and this time tried tempura udon, which is quite nice. I like its freshness, and the prawn really goes with the sauce. Recommend the tempura here :)

A lively restaurant! My food(my first bento box) was really yummy. I like the sectioning because I am a child and eat all my food separately anyway. It was really nice and filling and I left feeling satisfied. I will definitely be going again!

Nom. Trying something different is always high on my list. This place, the food and portions were good but the service was a little lacking. When we asked the server if the«chicken and mushroom» noodle dish we pointed at had chicken in, despite there not being any chicken mentioned on the ingredients, we were told it did it it came out absent of any meat. The dish however was full of flavour. I had the bento, a meal in a box tons of variety and strange but pleasant food. Not great enough to try again, but I’ll probably pick a different variety next time. Mediocre it isn’t. But good is such a bland word… Try the green tea latte!

I always get suspicious if I encounter a Japanese restaurant with tacky name, particularly in the middle of the Bullring. The menu was small but my friend insisted on eating Japanese, so we tried their Bento. The owner/chef(?) was Japanese and the two chefs were Philippino; I am not sure what nationality the waitress was. My Pork Cutlet Bento came with salty and fatty Pork Cutlet(no point adding salt as we normally eat it with Tonkatsu sauce) served on top of Shredded Cabbage dressed with Mayonnaise(Mayonnaise made the Pork saltier as well), overcooked tasteless Rice(hello?), Salad(mainly lettuce) with watery dressing, tiny bit of Grilled Sweet Corn, Dashi-maki type Egg, some Pickled Cucumber, piece of Tomato(not in the salad), pleasant Potato Salad and excellent Sesame-dressed Green Beans(the only item which shined). The price(just over £10) was OK considering the location, but they needed to pay extra attention to detail. One of the basic components of the Japanese food is rice, so they had better do something about it. The waitress and the two chefs were friendly, but the owner was a bit grouchy and looked miserable; he even ignored my Japanese greeting. It is a shame the location was excellent but the food didn’t deliver. I am wondering if there is any authentic Japanese restaurant that serves tasty food in Birmingham.

Tried Mount Fuji Bento and it smelt better than it tasted. The chefs at the counter were not from Japan so the food was not so great. I tried the salty Tonkatsu Pork with mushy rice and salad. It was all right but slightly overpriced compared to London. I wouldn’t go back.

Let’s start with the good. … Erm… Let’s start with the ok. The Tempura is ok, its almost good. The Edamame are also ok. They are closer to good, but still didn’t quite make it. Continuing the ok theme were the main courses of pork Tonkatsu Bento and eel Donburi. Nothing inherently really wrong with either but neither delivered on the promise. It was Japanese cooked by someone who once knew someone, who had flown near to Japan. The bad. The rest of the bento was bad, the sides and the lack of green tea refills also bad. Finally the truly, astoundingly dreadful. The sashimi. Ooh they did unspeakable things to the sashimi. Unspeakable. Raw onion, gloppy sauce. Where was the pickled ginger, where was the wasabi. And most importantly of all where was the bloody fish. I’m being gentle. If you do go, don’t order the sashimi. You have been warned. Unilocal recommends Wagamama as an alternative Japanese restaurant, obviously it’s lying, there is nothing Japanese about Wagamama, but at least I can eat there and leave happy, full and not feeling like my pocket just got picked. If anyone knows any good Japanese restaurants in a 50 mile radius of Birmingham please let me know because this place doesnt come close.

I’d passed by this place enough times and finally popped in for lunch. This place is known more for their bento boxes, which I could’ve tried, but opted for curry. Usually, it’s not something I choose when I’m at a Japanese restaurant, so my expectations weren’t particularly high. For lunch I had shrimp tempura w/curry and washed it down with a Coke. It wasn’t too bad, but I thought it was a bit expensive for what I got. I’m used to having a bit more rice for soaking the curry sauce up, and I thought there would’ve been at least some dressing on the side for the salad. The shrimp tempura itself was cooked fine — nice and crunchy with the panko crumbs. It seems like everyone who comes here makes a bee-line for the bento boxes, so perhaps I’ll try one of them. I wish their shop was local too — it would be nice to have a Japanese store in Birmingham(ideally next door) among Wing Yip and Seoul Plaza.

Small place, small menu but the quality and authenticity of the bento boxes is excellent. Personally I strongly prefer this to wagamamas next door. Loses a mark cause I always smell like food for the rest of the day. Not the place to go if you’re after a wide range of raw fish(but if anyone knows anywhere that is in Birmingham, please share).

service was pleasant. food was alright. i think the main thing they do is bento boxes. would have liked to see a bit more variety in terms of sushi. i find it quite hard to eat with so many people walking by to be honest as it’s in center of the bull ring. it’s a bit weird and disorienting at the same time. but if you don’t mind it, it’s alright. would definitely prefer this place as opposed to the other japanese chains around town.

I used to visit Mount Fuji regularly when I lived in Birmingham and it was easily one of my favourite eateries. I loved the mochi tea and the bento boxes were always full of a range of delicious foods. I really hate most Eastern food restaurants in the UK as they’re absolutely nothing like the real thing but both my wife and I(she’s a highly trained chef from that side of the world) really enjoyed their food. The waitresses were great as well, charming, efficient and funny.

excellent food and very affordable. everything is wonderfully presented in true Nippon style. This is our favourite restaurant every time when we are in Brum. Much better that Wagamama which is only down the road. It also offers excellent choice of fresh sushis and don’t forget to order your Green Tea Tiramisu which is under £3.00. I would highly recommend it to anyone. A++++

It’s a proper neighbourhood restaurant from Tokyo transplanted to Birmingham. Try a cod or chicken bento with a side of sushi or even fried tofu(just amazing!) Or perhaps add some tempura if you are really hungry. My other half swears by the chicken curry. A wide variety of suitably odd Japanese soft drinks are available. Staff are friendly. And the desserts are great too.

Me and my boyfriend often come here when we go shopping in the Bullring. They have authentic Japanese waitresses, the menu is not that extensive but there are bento lunch menus along with Japanese style steak tofu, or a sashimi salad(very small). The bento comes with some rice, a main of your choice, some pickles and vegetables. A great combination!
