I’ve been to Italy on my travels and they do serve the best pizza I have ever tasted. It has an authenticity that could only be created from its origin. Living in the States I encountered two types of pizza, the New York Style and the Chicago Style. The New York Style has a thinner base and a larger circumference. The slices are many and huge. The Chicago Style is smaller in circumference and has a thicker base and a lot of sauce with layers of cheese on top. The Chicago pizza is more of a pie than a pizza and it tastes great. Munch takes the three classic foundations of pizza and turns them on their head. The combo’s are wild and they have their own unique style. Saying that, I’d rather be eating a pizza on a Venetian canal bridge than one of Munch’s monstrosities. Munch is great if you are hungry, and heavenly if you are intoxicated.

Sometimes fusing food from different cultures can go seriously wrong. If you’ve experienced Iceland’s Chicken Tikka Masala Lasagna then you might be forgiven for thinking that Italian and Asian are two different cuisines that will never lie well as bed-fellows. Now, Munch do a pretty original pizza. One of my former girlfriends was Italian and a pizza purist; she would refuse to be in the same room as someone who was eating a ham and pineapple pizza. Now that’s a combination that is generally accepted, but Masala Fish on a pizza? Izzy would have fainted at the words on the menu, let alone the sight of the beast. It’s touching on Heston Blumenthal territory for its outlandishness, but the flakes of cod with their bright masala coating, mid-hot jalapenos, and deep pan base are just what I need on this rainy day out. Other specials here are the Bombay Bad Boy, Bad Boy Munch,(how gansta can ya git?) as well as garden varieties such as margherita and pepperoni.

I purchased a pizza from here, for just over five pound I grabbed a medium. With Domino’s just over the road this new takeaway knew they had to up the ante. Munch did exactly that. I was thoroughly impressed; it was a soft pizza with a variety of toppings, spice and not smothered in too much cheese or crust. The rest of the family grab a Masala fish or chicken and they continue to go back. The vibrant competition for fast food at the yew tree continues to incline, whether this is to my avail or not I am unsure.
