I hate camping. I think man and society has evolved sufficiently for me to be able to spend my leisure time in somewhere with a roof, a telly and a bar. If I am asked along on a camping trip I politely refuse. However, sometimes, and as a fan of music and sport in particular, I am forced to spend long periods of time standing still in outdoor spaces. Rather than show up in jeans and trainers and make everyone miserable with my moaning, I tend to want to be warm and dry. When I went to the Ryder Cup in Wales in October a year or so back(and Wales + October should give you a clue as to the state of the weather) I used the services of Oswald Bailey to keep me sane. They kicked me out with a decent pair of boots and some waterproof strides that were both practical and stylish. These items are now gathering dust in a cupboard.

Yes, I know it’s a chain. But it’s a relatively little one! I like this shop becuase the guys in there are really friendly and don’t seem to mind me coming in with a pushchair and squeezing round the tight space. The same can’t be said for a great many of the shops in Kings Heath, believe me. And don’t get me started on shopping in Kings Heath at Christmas time-you may as well not bother between November and December if you have a pushchair, but anyway, I digress… Practically speaking, it’s also got a good range of value stuff and I’ve always found what I was after in here, even when the bigger places like Go Outdoors didn’t seem to have it. I’ve bought stuff for the whole family and always liked the service and the product. Can’t say fairer than that.
