This has to be one of Birmingham’s hidden gems! After living in the jewellery quarter for a number of years I ventured in and was blown away by the authenticity combined with the great tastes. The staff are polite and will take parties of all sizes. A decent selection of wines not only Italian ensure that all tastes are catered for. I have been taking friends and family here for a year or so and am never not impressed. I always warm people call them on weekends as they do get busy with repeat custom and a table can be difficult to get.

Me and a friend had a meal here on the 19th April 2015. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and peaceful, and unlike some places we were not waiting long for a waiter to come and take our order. The standard and quality of the food here is excellent. I had a starter of stuffed mushrooms and olives which I was slightly worried would be to heavy on my stomach to have a main course after but it was delightful. As my main course me and my friend both had the homemade lasagne which was lovely and not to cheesy, the only thing I will say about it is the portion size was personally a bit much for me. It was our first time in Birmingham and when I return I will definitely take my family there. Highly recommended to everyone.

Ok, Ok. Again. You’ve read it before but I’ll say it again. I’m just not that bigger fan of Italian food. I’ve got nothing against it, I’m just not one for pasta and pizza necessarily — I would prefer something a little more… interesting? That being said, I do rate Pasta Di Piazza. On the Sunday night of my birthday weekend, we were in a bit of a quandary. Me, Dan and my parents-in-law were looking for somewhere to grab a bite on the evening, and it had gone 6:00(the time many establishments in the area seem to stop serving food). Pasta Di Piazza was just over the way from where they were staying, so it seemed worth popping our head around the door to see if they could squeeze us in. Although this venue was MEGABUSY, they were totally unfazed and sorted us out a table within minutes of us walking through the door. Service was a little slow(as I say, they were pretty busy), but the food was great! I opted for the seafood linguine and was actually very impressed. King prawns, Mussels and lashings of other interesting bits and bobs served with a generous helping of fresh pasta and a thick, tasty tomato sauce. For less than £12, this was a very good offering! We each ordered a main dish and shared a bottle of wine(all very nice) and the overall bill came to around £65. Really not bad when you consider there was 4 of us and the quality of the food was spot on. Again, this is a lovely little spot for some good Italian fair off St Paul’s Square(that won’t break the bank). Definitely give it a go if you haven’t as yet!

There’s much to like about P Di P and I actually used to frequent this place on a regular basis, mainly very early evenings when I was working as a freelancer in the city and before heading to my hotel! Service was always polite and fairly prompt and the food about on the money. I haven’t been in for around two years but on a whim I popped by for lunch. Everything is exactly to the same. It’s still clean, well laid out and attractive. Nice starched napkins, cutlery laid out correctly, side plate, those funny dried bread stick things to nibble. You even get some fresh bread, olive oil, balsamic and butter thrown in to nibble while you wait. All smashing so far. I ordered a lemon chicken pasta main and a green salad side. Both arrived quickly. Unfortunately neither tickled my fancy much. The pasta was a tad on the over-cooked side, the sauce nothing special, very bland actually, and the broccoli was just sliced stalks — entirely edible of course but I’d normally throw those bits away. I was hungry so I ate most of it. It was really nothing special at all. On to the green salad. Well the colours were indeed largely green, but the lettuce leaves were not particularly crisp, more like the outer leaves, but in any event the whole lot was slobbered in some cheap ‘dressing’. Like 1000 Island or something. Just too much, too cheap and too nasty. I left it all. I asked for the bill and it came to around £13−14 I think. But then for some reason they seemed to take forever to sort my change. It took longer to sort it actually than it did to bring my main course! I went to the till eventually and there it was just waiting. The staff had been to and fro countless times but couldn’t be bothered bringing it over for some reason. Irritating. So unfortunately my fond memories of a few years back were dashed: mediocre main, genuinely poor salad and service polite enough but less than switched on. Despite it being fairly busy and so clearly popular, I just can’t see how the pricing can be justified. It’s not the most expensive I know, but I’d expect better.

I’ve somewhat avoided pasta di piazza since we had a distinctly average meal here a while back but on Sunday we needed somewhere to eat that was close and going to be filling as my mother’s feet were playing up and we were all starving. With it being mothers day we weren’t sure if they’d be able to fit us in here but we were very promptly seated as the restaurant was busy and buzzing but still with room for a group of 4. Pdp is a popular Italian restaurant on St. Paul’s Square that always seems to have a fair few people in, unsurprisingly as it’s in a prime location and is very reasonably priced. We decided just to go for mains and a bottle of wine, my dish of crab ravioli in a lobster bisque with fresh clams was stunning. Some of the best seafood pasta I’ve had since we took a trip to Vicenza a few years ago. Everything was brought out promptly but we didn’t feel in any way rushed, our waiter also kindly fixed our wobbly table to allow for a more… stable dining experience. We all had a great meal, and the fact that for 4 of us with a bottle of wine cost less than £70 made it even more delectable. I’m sorry I judged you harshly pasta di piazza, you did us proud!

A lovely restaurant in St Pauls Square, that offers good Italian cuisine. We had our Christmas meal here, and i was impressed with the food and service. My starter of Pâté Della Cassa was delicious — duck liver pâté, with Parma Ham, caramelized onion and ciabatta. My main of Lamb shank served on a bed of mashed potatoes was very nice, and my dessert of Tiramisu was devine. Red and white wine was complementary and coffee was served to finish. Friendly and efficient service. Nice décor and atmosphere. The menu has a very large choice of dishes including pizza’s, pasta and platters, and set menu’s also available. It’s definitely worth a visit

«I fancy a big icecream» I said to my daughter as we entered into the Jewellery quarter. I was fantasizing about eating a big fancy sundae in the bank holiday sunshine. I‘d always passed the Pasta Di Piazza and promised myself that I would eat there one day. For some reason I thought that this was where I would find my perfect sundae and went there with my daughter. I enthusiastically described my requirements with hand gestures to illustrate the size of my dream desert to one of the waiters and He made recommendations. Mamma Mia! Bella Bella! I thought that I had died and gone to heaven when I decided that as well as a desert that I would try the Arborella Fritti from the appetiser menu. I was savoring every morsel of my battered deep fried white bait with tartare sauce, lemon and salad. And the servings were extremely generous. My daughter had the same and enjoyed hers too Then I went onto the finale; the Gelati Misti. Three scoops of Italian icecream. We had vanilla, strawberry and pistachio with a fresh strawberry and wafer. Wow! Lovely interior and exterior, great staff and magnificent food. «I‘ll be back» as Arnie would say

I have frequented this restaurant on and off for the last 13 years since my boyfriend first took me on a date. The ambience is great, always bustling and lively. Internal décor is nice and lighting not too bright. Menu is vast with loads of options, standard traditional fare of pasta and pizza dishes, then fresh fish and steaks. Starters and desserts are always appetising and well presented. Sadly, this cannot be said for the main courses, of which I am perpetually disappointed. The pasta dishes are somewhat lacking. Once I was so appalled with a cannelloni that I didn’t even eat it other than to take one bite. It is quite possibly the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant. The tomato sauce, as another reviewer commented, was far from homemade. It was orange, all the same consistency and looked like tomato soup. It didn’t taste much better. How an Italian restaurant can present such an abysmal cannelloni I will never know. Like another reviewer mentioned, all of the fish and meat dishes come with exactly the same side dishes: sliced potatoes(either roasted or sautéed I don’t remember) and whatever veg they serve on the day. These are served on dishes to share with the table. They look reheated and unappealing, a bit like school dinner veg. The meat then becomes the primary focus; great for some, but for me, I prefer the whole meal to be cohesive. That being said, the steak or fish they are usually very good. Service is always good, friendly and efficient even when they are heaving. If there are a lot of people waiting for tables service can be a little rushed. You often have to wait around for a table to become free (despite booking) as they always seem to take too many bookings for actual covers available. However, that is the least of their worries. If they improved the standard of their food, I would return. Unfortunately, in my opinion, they have long been overtaken by newer, fresher competitors with higher standards, where you don’t run the risk of being disappointed.

I LOVE this Italian restaurant which is based in the pituresque St. Pauls Square. I first tried this restaurant when I moved to Birmingham three years ago. The restaurant is inviting, always seems to be busy and has a great buzzing atmosphere as a result. It’s not the cheapest of restaurants, but that doesn’t put me off as I know I will receive great service and delicious food. The menu is vast with a variety of pasta dishes, pizza and platters dishes to choose from such as Steak, Veal, King Prawns and Lamb. The food never disappoints so if you haven’t been I would recommend a visit but be sure to book a table.

We had a bit of a wait but the food was delicious and completely worth it. The service didn’t seem to be affected by the fact that it was very busy and there were lots of groups having Christmas meals.

Strangely enough, this was my favourite restaurant in Birmingham before I moved here 3 years ago. I used to come here frequently, on several birthdays and just any time I got to choose the restaurant. For most of the last 3 years, I have been living a couple of minutes walk from here and still never managed to get through the door. But at some point on Saturday afternoon, I decided this had to change immediately, if not sooner. I had been helping out at a huge event(Coffee Birmingham) which accumulated in the big Coffee Birmingham day, during which we encouraged everyone in the city to try out their local independent coffee shops and generally spread the indie love. So it’s fitting that I celebrate at one of the city’s most established indie Italian restaurants. Nothing has changed. Thankfully. We still get bread sticks in packets on our table. The service is genuine and excellent. The restaurant is always packed — if you call on the day you will still only have the option of 6pm or 10pm for a table. It seemed a little over priced from what I recall(£14-£19 for a main) hence lack a star but all still delicious. Generally I always have chicken or salmon in Italian stylee and once the BF had pointed out the salmon on the specials board, £14.50) that was my mind made up. The dessert has many options and several of them are ice cream, which I’m not a fan of other than in Italian restaurants(or when great restaurants do bizarre flavour combos) but today I decided to go for the traditional Tiramisu anyway. Beware this is perfect but huge — enough for two really! Book earl to avoid disappointment.

A charming italian restaurant situated just off St Paul’s Square in the Jewellery Quarter. The building and interior décor are very traditional with open brickwork, plants and paintings which gives the place a really nice warm welcoming ambience. Staff are attentive and friendly and the food was scrummy! I opted for stuffed garlic mushrooms followed by a chicken pasta main with a blue cheese sauce. My boyfriend had gnocchi followed by a meat pizza. The waitress had no problem with swapping one of the toppings. The only drawback with this place is because it’s so lovely it would be really romantic if it wasn’t so busy and noisy but even so, the good food and service will make you want to keep coming back!

I’ve always been a fan of this place, either for lunch with colleagues or a romantic dinner with the loved one. I treated my girlfriend to a birthday lunch here recently. She’s half Italian and had wanted to try this place for a long time. As we walking through the doors the waiters were immediately attentive and very welcoming, even more so when my girlfriend began to show off her fluent Italian. The décor is authentic and the atmosphere is relaxed, the restaurant is well laid out with plenty of room to move between the tables rather than cramming as many tables in as possible. My partner had the Bruschetta to start and the portion was large enough for us to share. For main, I had the beef stroganoff, the strips of beef were tender, with a melt in the mouth texture. Whatever it was the birthday girl had it was devoured in moments. A very pleasant visit which earned me a whole bunch of brownie points.

I love Pasta di Piazza; it’s classy, attractive and the food is excellent and cheap. I have lived in Birmingham for nearly ten years now and never go anywhere else when I fancy an Italian meal… well, except for Pizza Express but that doesn’t count. One of my favourites here is the seafood linguine — it’s absolutely delicious. This dish must have increased in popularity though as the price has gone up significantly since I last had it. Pasta dishes start from £8.40, which I think is fairly reasonable considering the quality of the food; Pizzas range from £7.45 to £9.75. The surroundings have an authentic, rustic, wine cellar kind of feel which is enhanced by the beautiful plants, vines and tomatoes growing in window boxes outside the front. I can’t remember much about the service to be honest but I’ll give them five stars as they didn’t kick us out when my friend fell asleep in his dessert at the end of the night! We did have to wait an hour for our table over at The Rectory Bar though, which is how we got so drunk(don’t look at me like that, it was my birthday)!

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Birmingham and not just because the food is so good but for the atmosphere and location. I love arriving in St Pauls Square with its imposing church and tress decorated with white fairy lights. The outside of the restaurant itself is covered in flowers and foliage. Inside the premises feel like a traditional, rustic Italian trattoria. The food is generally excellent and on my last visit we sampled the Insalata Tricolore, Risotto Alla Marinara and Fegato Venezian. All were perfect and served in a timely manner. The staff are friendly but not over fussy and leave you to enjoy your dinner. However, don’t forget to check the special’s board as often I think the best dishes are on there. This is not a super cheap restaurant(£9-£15 for mains) but for the price I think the whole experience is good value.

The cost effective and politely staffed alternative to Birmingham’s San Carlo, Atmosphere is traditionally Italian, the ivy leafs, cozy wood tables & chairs, tiled floor and big windows. Good food, service was weak– you cant bring an ex barman a warm beer and tell him its from the back of the fridge, sent it back 3 times… they struggled to keep up their polite act, never the less i am a returning customer. 6.5÷10

Pasta di Piazza is a beautiful looking, spacious and seemingly authentic Italian eatery in a great location just off St. Paul’s Square. I’ve visited on a number of occasions, usually as part of a work outing or for a friend’s birthday. For the size of the portions you get, the price is very reasonable and the food is decent enough, although nothing to get too excited over. My main problem with this restaurant is the fact that it can get very crowded in the evening, and the management appear to be doing their best to cram as many punters in as possible at the cost of a comfortable dining experience. It’s not a bad place to eat, and as Italian restaurants go it’s one of the better ones for large party bookings — there’s something on the menu for pretty much everyone. But if you’re going with a small group of friends or on a date, there are a number of better Italian options available to you.

Oh my oh my. I have not been back to Pasta de Piazza for over 18months now and I shall explain why. Firstly the positives — The restaurant has one of the most charming exteriors you will see in town, adorned with beautiful folwer and hanging baskets it it a real pleasure on the eye. The prices here are quite reasonable if you manage to pick a good dish — Anything baked al forno such as the lasagne or cannelloni were always a hit. That said choose unwisely and you are in for a shocker. The meat dishes, fish dishes & specials all come with the same vegetables which illustrates an unimaginative chef with little idea about matching combinations of flavours. I went once with a group of 20 and went round the table looking at people who had ordered different dishes which were dressed with a similar sauce(unforgivable). Pasta is bought in — anyone claiming to be authentic italian buying in pasta is having a laugh(I also saw tins yes TINS of tomato sauce Mama would be turning in her grave!) During my last visit we ordered a bottle of house red(nice) 2 lasagne(as discussed — safe!) then I ordered my ‘benchmarking’ dish — a green salad. You see ANY restaurant should be able to make up a green salad therefore it is an excellent dish to test the chef. Some I order come out undressed! On some the leaves are more brown than green. Some are a few bits of old iceberg with a dressing smacking so strongly of mustard and garlic that it makes you wonder if the chef tastes his food at all! This one was so bad that I sent it back and asked how the chef could have the audasity to send it out to me in the firstplace! Needless to say I declined thier offer of a replacement. Then after the lasagne(very nice it must be said!) benchmark no espresso. Now any Italian worth its salt should be able to knock out a great espresso. It is so easy its painfull. This tests the front of house team, mine lacked any crema at all(layer of coffee on top of the espresso with the oild from the beans — not present if beans have been ground too far before making the coffee, not present if the machine is not kept in good order!) Black mark no 2. Now I have had a long rant there — congratulations if you are even still reading this! Its just that I walk past this place all the time and its heaving — really really busy, so am I wrong about my thoughts? Possibly. Possibly the good people of Birmingham have not sampled truly authentic Italian cuisine?(I have travelled Italy extensively and visited many regions studying thier cuisine). If you are looking for good Italian food look no further than Filini@Raddisson SAS — I have also heard that Piccolino is excellent — although I am yet to try it.
