There’s times in life when popping out of the office to grab a decent sandwich or bowl of soup is needed and this week has been one of them. Great food. Delicious cakes. A bit pricey but city centre prices. But who can resist a delicious bowl of veg and chicken soup when it’s so ugly outside? My fave lunchtime treat!

They have some splendid sandwiches and that’s what I’ve experienced from Philpotts. I haven’t managed to have anything else yet but I’m sure I will do. They offer a large selection of foods to treat any busting appetite. You’ll more than likely be able to purchase whatever you are looking to find. The quality of food is really good. I’m not a sandwich person but their sandwiches are mouth watering and a huge favourite of mine. This is one of the only places I’ll go and buy a sandwich from. It’s usually full during lunch times, I think that’s because Philpotts get a lot of recommendations from other customers. I’m such a wimp, I tend to order the same sandwich every time I go there; however last week I did order the Chicken and Bacon sandwich which was a surprise even to me. I normally order the roast chicken with salad and a bit of mayo. I’ve been given recommendations by work colleagues about other sandwich fillings which I’ve decided I’m finally going to try.

‘Purveyors of Fine Food for 25 years’ is their tagline and well my experience certainly involved fine food. This is a premium lunch break store — you will get some delicious food whether it be at breakfast, lunch or a quick snack on your way home. They offer a splendid array of mouth-watering options from sandwiches, salads to freshly carved roast meat sandwiches — woah nelly! The food is unbelievably good, I’ve never had a sandwich in town that tastes so good. I had a honey-roasted gammon sandwich which was divine, unrivalled by the underwhelming, pre-packaged stuff of local supermarkets and fast-food outlets. It you don’t like compromising on what food you eat then Philpotts will honour your preference by serving up some of the tastiest sandwiches in Birmingham.

Odd how you can have the tendency to order the same thing each time you visit. I wanted to write a review on what I ordered but it’s the exact same thing I ordered last time! Chicken, bacon, mozzarella w/cucumbers, roasted peppers(yellow and red), and onions which I did not get last time. Still delicious.

As sandwich shops go, Philpotts is at least a dependable chain with a good selection of breads, fillings and sundries such as soup. The prices aren’t the best, but at least they offer decent quality food and the service is fast and friendly. At the end of the day it’s a smartly-presented fast food joint, very popular with the nearby office denizens. One thing I don’t understand about Philpotts’ food is why they feel the need to saturate everything with black pepper? I bought a portion of soup along with a thick piece of bread, and not only was the soup full of pepper, but the bread was(sorry) peppered with it as well! Suffice to say I needed a tall glass of water after that particular lunch was concluded! This branch of Philpotts loses major points for the staff not using a separate knife to cut vegetarian and non-vegetarian sandwiches. You might think it petty of me, but I like to think that when I bite into my sandwich, it won’t be contaminated with heaven knows how many prior customers’ lunches.

I love the sandwiches here! The fillings are inventive(I loved) the January«sandwich of the month» and for what they are I don’t think they are too pricey. It’s conveniently located in the middle of the«financial» district but service is always quick even in busy periods. Much better than getting a chain café sandwich!
