PMT is a fantastic music store that sells instruments, I think I was in my element with the hundreds of guitars, keyboards and drums they had in the place. Staff were really friendly and knowledgable also. Pricing was also reasonable.

I’ve been using this place for a number of years and it pretty much carries everything a musician could want or need. Whether you’re going in for something specific, or else just browsing, it’s worth popping in. As it’s situated on the ring road and has a(fairly) spacious car-park, it’s a much better option if you’re in a hurry than the city centre stores along the Smallbrook Queensway. The last thing I bought in here was a high quality microphone. The staff took me to a soundproofed room and we road tested several mikes to run them through their paces. This was, I felt, over and above the call of duty for a music shop where you are often left to your own devices and useful assistance can often be hard to obtain.

Don’t be mislead by this shop’s initials. They don’t deal in remedies for a woman’s ‘time of the month’. Instead Professional Music Technology deal in music equipment, specialising in keyboards, drums and both bass and six-string guitars. I came in here for a Fender Telecaster and I didn’t really know the pros and cons of the different Squire, Mexican or US models. The assistant explained the differences in a clear way and left me to decide which one suited my budget. Another time I’ve been in here was to get a portable recording studio with a microphone and the necessary leads. I got a discounted deal on this, as well as being able to pay in instalments PMT is a little way out of town, so its not as easily accessible,(depending on where you live) as city centre music shops, but their collection of guitars makes them worth traveling to if you are considering a purchase of a new axe.

Walking out of town and past Millennium Point, PMT lies on the other side of a large roundabout. It’s a place I have been visiting for years and have used to test out new purchases and pick up essentials such as leads and strings. PMT’s main advantage over its competitors lies in its huge size and impressive amount of stock: I have never been turned away because of something being out of stock which is always nice once you’ve walked all the way there. The cavernous guitar warehouse is huge, although the quality of the instruments are somewhat inconsistent: For the odd diamond and the usual high-end staples, there’s a lot of forgettable stuff hanging up on the walls. However, the advantage of so much stock means you’re spoilt for choice as a beginner, a full-time musician or simply as someone just marvelling at everything. The keyboard section is well stocked too, and I have found the staff that specialise in this area are particularly knowledgable when it comes to Rolands and Korgs which is particularly handy. Staff are friendly and always happy to let you try things out, and the prices are also pretty competitive. Overall, a great place that’s well worth a visit even it’s just for a poke around.

This place is situated five minutes out of the city centre, down past millenium point. It has a huge array of musical equipiment which includes a really good range of guitars as well as keyboards and Amplifiers. The staff are welcoming and always willing to help. The price of equipment isn’t too bad for a retail outlet consiering the prices at other music shops in the city(no names mentioned).
