A nice little pub on the fringe of the Jewellery Quarter, the Queens Arms has stood the test of time. After a couple of refurbishment in the last few years it’s looking better than ever. There’s usually around 6 guest ales in at any one time, the food is decent, especially the pizza(look out for the bogof offer), and their weekly quiz is always good for a laugh. They even pipe the quiz out into the smoking area so if you’re struggling for a seat inside and it’s warm enough you can go for an al fresco quiz! The first time I came here the smoking area was a tiny little bit out the back, barely big enough to fit an ashtray in but now it’s been transformed into quite the lovely little outdoor space. All in all a great little pub. Not a cocktail bar, not a wine bar, not a craft beer bar. A pub. A proper pub.

If you were to look up the term ‘traditional British pub’ on the internet image search engine of your choice, a photo of The Queen’s Arms interior would be a perfect addition to the resulting photo listings. Traditional furnishings, a few comfortable sofas, cinema seats no less in the beer garden there’s even pots of trivial pursuit questions on the table to entertain yourselves as you sup your drink and let life pass by in this ridiculously relaxed pub. Our reason for visiting The Queen’s Arms is usually to sample something new off the menu which is varied and updated regularly. Be sure to check with the bar staff what is on offer and you visit on a Sunday be prepared for a mammoth plate of Sunday lunch. For our most recent visit we returned to one of our favourite menu choices the sharing platters, an economical way to get a varied spread of food and reasonably priced for the amount you get. I recommend the Lashford sausages of which you always get to sample two flavours and the home made faggots in gravy are a real treat too. With so much so right, there’ still something a little lacking here, I cannot lie it really is a great retreat and über relaxing for a catch up with friends and to wind down after work, but there is something a bit subdued about it. The bar staff lack the enthusiasm you get at other pubs in the area and there isn’t the friendly atmosphere that is so apparent in other drinking hostelries in and around Birmingham. Go for a quiet drink, stay for a bite to eat but maybe leave feeling a little short changed on the welcome and slightly ambitious menu pricing.

A-OK. Not the most exciting place that you’ve ever been to. However it’s gives off the ‘proper pub’ vibe well for such a city centre location. There’s always a few ales on tap, which pleases the Mr, and the food isn’t bad either. It’s a little on the pricey side, but not overtly so, especially for the area it’s in. Across the road from our apartments, it’s a good solid local. Quiz night is on thursday(with buy one get one free on pizzas) and sports on the Tv’s most of the time. There’s also a quaint ‘beer garden’.

The best pub quiz in Birmingham every Thursday — a great, entertaining night out. Arrive early as it does get busy. Food is awesome too!

I came here with the Unilocal team for a pub quiz which they do every Thursday evening at 8.30. I had never been here before despite walking past it every week! I was pleasantly surprised by the relaxed young vibe inside. It’s not a big place but has plenty of seating and was buzzing when I was there. We didn’t do too well at the quiz but it was good fun! I notice they do a Sunday roast amongst other food options, so will check that out at some point and update my review!

A regular stomping ground on a Friday lunchtime with work colleagues, the Queens Arms offers great and reasonably priced pub grub, beers(including local independent ales) and a place to unwind from a busy day/week. The Grade II listed 19th Century pub is part of the historic Jewellery Quarter and as such fits right in, however it’s not the biggest of pubs so can get cramped at times and have no tables free to sit and eat for groups bigger than 3 or 4, so do bare that in mind if you’re eating. Overall a top pub serving residents and office workers in the area.

The Queens Arms is on Newhall Street and a stones throw away from St Paul’s Square. Outside it portrays the well-kept traditional pub aesthetic and attracts a varied crowd throughout the week. I haven’t eaten here(yet), but they do special’s on weekdays(BOGOF Pizza Thursday and Friday) and the pie is supposed to be damn good. I’ve got mixed feelings about the Queens. On one hand, their smoking/outdoor area is fab. Cinema seats, covered bits and a layout that always seems to encourage conversations with random folk(every time I’ve visited I’ve had great conversations with strangers), but the problem is the service. They are obviously trying very hard to be a local pub with a warm welcome, but the service is very hit and miss. Sometimes the staff are friendly, warm and genuinely seem to appreciate your custom, but on others they can be «off»(with a «Here is your order, now leave me alone» kind of vibe). I do love the prints on the wall and the brass railing around the bar, it feels like a great place to grab a real ale or a stout. Pricewise, it’s ok too. I bought a round of two speciality ales and a Large glass of white wine and the round came to less than £13. When you consider the price of a glass of wine in some of the venue’s around this area, it’s quite reasonable. Final verdict? I would give it a go if you are in this area and haven’t been before. However, it’s not one of my top tips for the JQ.

A lovely little pub at the start of the Jewellery Quarter. It is quite small, and the outdoor seating is on the pavement, and usually only about 4 chairs, but it’s a proper pub(although that doesn’t mean dirty) with proper beer and proper food. Owned by the same people as Edmunds and The Rectory, they keep the standards high with the food and drink here too, and the staff are always friendly. An interesting little touch are the little pots of random trivia game cards on the tables. No need to wait for a quiz night if you’re up for an evening of challenging questions. The steak and ale pie is amazing by the way!

A great pub that is located in the Jewellery Quarter area, a stones throw away from St. Pauls Square. I have been here on a few occasions, mostly to take part in their Thursday quiz(make sure you get there early to bag a seat!) and to watch some sport on one of their TV’s. They offer buy one get one free on Pizzas on Thursday and Friday all day, which is superb! A great variety of cask ales, wines, and ciders are available to whet your whistle. A small pub but it provides a cosy atmosphere and friendly service.

Well technically this is my local but it’s just too close to home, a stones throw away! Just like my coffee shops, I like to have a few minutes walk in between home and ‘second home.’ My main visit to the Queens has been the quiz which is why this place is so busy on a Thursday. Arrive early to get a seat, especially if you’re a big group(although that’s technically cheating, I think they should all be roughly the same size!) It’s always generally busy though when I walk past and they have a decent menu all through the day and the pizza deals Thursday and Friday. Oh, and there’s a rumour of a ghost.

The Queens Arms is a nice pub on the cusp of St Pauls square which offers a range of beers, wines and nice snacks. In fact It’s quite near to where the old Science Museum used to sit(don’t get me started on that — I used to love the old Science Museum with it’s very sensible displays and old fashioned dial phones… I was honestly a little bit tearful when they knocked it down) and the location is probably one of the pubs plus points. It’s a popular after work destination and gets pretty busy Sunday lunchtimes when they serve up a very tasty looking roast but the ladies toilets are up a flight of very steep stairs(not ideal if you’ve had a few) and the smoking area is so small you may find yourself sitting on the lap of someone you don’t know. All in all it’s a pretty decent place but on odd occasions it lacks atmosphere.

I first ended up here on a work night out. We went down on a Thursday night for the pub quiz! I’d never been to quiz before so I was a bit sceptical as my general knowledge isn’t the best. Luckily for me, there was a good variety of questions from music, reality TV, soaps, history and sports. The quiz master was funny and kindly repeated all of the questions as the pub was pretty packed due to its popularity. Between us we thought we did pretty well but a few beers in and we couldn’t have done as well as we thought as we came last! We started to feel a bit peckish and found out that they offer a 24112-inch pizza deal on quiz night which was just perfect. I opted for the stone-baked BBQ chicken which went down a treat. I’ve since learnt that they’re famous for their sausages so I’ll be sampling these next time!

The Queen’s Arms is an attractive pub on Newhall Street in Birmingham, close to St Paul’s Square and the Jewellery Quarter. Boasting many an original feature, this Grade ll listed pub is in a great location, opposite the Assay Office and close to many of the city’s hotels and hostels. You will definitely see it when walking down Newhall Street because of it’s distinctive red bricks, wonderful Art Nouveau tiled sign and etched windows. The pub is well worth a visit, if only to marvel at the arcitechture; it even has it’s own ghost! That’s sure to attract a punter or two. Inside, the pub has been lovingly refurbished with traditional dark wood, brass features and leather seating. Staff here are friendly and the food is pretty good. The pub hosts a quiz on Thursday nights and serves 241 cocktails from 7pm on Saturdays. They also show sports so keep an eye on their blog for any sporting events being screened there soon: There used to be live Jazz on Tuesdays with free hotdogs but I’m not sure if that still happens. It was a pretty good night out!
