I usually avoid the mailbox when it comes to dining, but came here for a birthday party and was really happy with the food and service. Red Peppers is incredibly accommodating to large groups, and there is ample choice on the menu(something for everyone, really… from pizza to curries to souvlaki). The pasta dishes seemed to be a big hit with everyone. Really reasonably priced drinks. Ingredients all seemed fresh. It was quite busy on a Saturday afternoon, but service was very attentive and the waitstaff were all super friendly. We barely waited for our food, even as a group of 10. No super ‘wow’ factor, but a great place to go with a large group or for a decent and reasonably priced lunch. If you can get a seat by the window, or if it’s nice enough that the patio is open, there’s a lovely view of the canal.

I quite like this place if I find myself in the Mailbox — nothing particularly special perhaps but a fun, casual atmosphere and a good choice for either a large group or new people whose food fussiness levels you don’t know yet. The menu is large and varied so there should be something to suit everyone, with a mish-mash of mexican/italian/other dishes available. It was a good place almost tarnished by a bad date for me last time — we’d had fun meeting for drinks previously but it took coming here for a meal to reveal that his manners with waiting staff left a LOT to be desired — which always says a lot about a person I’ve found. Luckily my thai fishcakes and salad were a yummy meal to munch through the awkward moments! The portion size is decent and I always leave very satisfied with(if not blown away by) the food. I like the view out onto the canal too, on the rare occasions we’re blessed with good weather. Have a feeling this will continue to be my fall-back option for Mailbox food!

I probably didn’t expect to love this place as much as I do — which is always a nice surprise! I have been there on two occasions now, and both have been fabulous. The first was for a pre-theatre dinner with my vegetarian, gluten-free mother, so speed and variety were imperative. For once, she was spoilt for choice and didn’t have to compromise her meal. Also, the food was served so quickly — it felt as though we had only just ordered and our meals were already there on the table. On the second occasion, I hadn’t booked a table and we were told the wait we would be an hour. However, we had only just ordered cocktails and taken a seat at the bar, when we were escorted to our table. I had the burrito on both occasions — it was so good I had to have it twice!

I stopped off here for a quick lunch with my mom and sister before checking in for on overnight spa stay at the mailbox. Now, it was always going to be tricky-we needed somewhere that would cater for my sister’s unadventurous tastes, my no carbs diet, and my mom is diabetic — eek! When we arrived on a Saturday lunchtime, the restaurant was busy, but they found us a table straight away. The service was quick and efficient, and I was quite impressed with the menu — everything from pizza’s to sandwiches and salads. Reasonably priced as well, with a sandwich a fries at £5.95, and mains up to around £10. I had the salsa chicken with a wrap instead of bread, and a side salad instead of fries — wonderful! They accommodated my requests with a smile, and we’re apologetic about it having to be sent back to the kitchen when they sent it out on a ciabatta roll, which I pointed out. I was a little disappointed that they had assumed, after my mom and sister ordered theirs without mayonnaise, that I obviously didn’t want any either. However, overall, a lovely place with a reasonably priced menu, helpful staff and quick service. Will definitely be rating here again!

Busy restaurant. Christmas parties going on. Anyway, we got a table and our food came reasonably fast(specially the starter). Our waitress was lovely and fast. They have enough variety on the menu to please different people. I had a pizza and I liked it: thin, with enough toppings, not greasy… my boyfriend had a curry and he said it was tasty. So yes, I would recommend this place.

Last week I found myself walking around the Mailbox with a friend in search of somewhere to have lunch, and Red Peppers jumped out at us with their lunchtime specials menu. This features salads, pizzas, ciabatta sandwiches and wraps which all come served with fries, salad or soup. My friend ordered the Beef Fajita Wrap which he said was mediocre and extremely hard to eat without everything falling out of it. I went for the Chicken Club Wrap but found it to be too spicy for my personal taste, quite dry, and relatively small for the £5.75 that it had cost. It filled a hole but it wasn’t anything special. Neither of us wanted the fries or soup on the side, but the waiter was extremely forceful and insisted that we had to choose one — he wouldn’t let it drop. So in the end we both settled for the Mushroom Soup. Although it was served piping hot, it was completely bland and I only had a few spoonfuls of it as really wasn’t good. I won’t be visiting Red Peppers again for lunch as I’ve had much nicer sandwiches and wraps for a lot cheaper at other places in Birmingham.

Sadly unimpressed. Small starters, overpriced, and they even tried to charge us for 3 bottles of wine.

Situated on the Cube facing side of the Mailbox, this is one of the better eateries within this canal-side setting. Having not been for a while, I was looking forward to trying some of the suggestions on their new menu. Great seating upstairs and downstairs and the whole place had a great atmosphere. Maybe being able to see the chefs hard at work actually preparing your meal, gives the place a little theater affect. I’d recommend the Enchilladas and the breaded mushrooms. The portions are very healthy in size, and the food is soo tasty. The only real negative I experienced here was that myself and other friends ordered fruit juice, which was served warm. The food more than made up for it. Attentive staff and a pleasant welcoming atmosphere with a good variety of dishes from all corners of the globe. We didn’t mind leaving a tip. Enjoy.

Located just outside the Mailbox, one of Birmingham’s most exclusive shopping locations, is Red Peppers, a great Mexican/Spanish style restaurant with a twist. The menu is eclectic, with the aforementioned themes taking precedence, but with some surprising additions, including a couple of Thai dishes. This shouldn’t put you off, however, as the food is consistently excellent(my particular favourites are the Milano Pizza and the chicken with pesto). I’ve also never found the staff anything less than charming. There’s a bit of outdoor seating, which makes for great views over the neighbouring canal when it’s warm and sunny. The real thing that Red Pepper has going for it, other than the food and service(so, essentially, everything) is the fact that it’s full of character, which is a huge breath of fresh air given it’s surrounded by homogenous chains.

Located in The Mailbox complex, it means you expect a lot more from those shops, bars and restaurants around that area because of the setting. Red Pepper’s is one of those restaurants I can’t really make up my mind about. I’m not a huge fan but I’ve had a couple of good times in there. It’s not the quality of food, but I just feel like the atmosphere in there is not the best atmosphere I’ve experienced. They serve some great food from pizzas, burgers, pasta, curry and special vegetarian dishes– so everyone is happy when dining there. However, for some reason I don’t have that longing passion for it as much as I do for a couple of other bars/restaurants in that area. It’s a great family place, so if you’d like to take your children they do accommodate for families. Also, the view is gorgeous; it’s the canal which helps the surroundings like even more beautiful. I’ll have to see if I become a major fan of the place like some of my other friends, maybe I’m missing something!

Got dinner with lots of awkward friends with different tastes in food? Then best head to Red Peppers. It is a busy family-friendly restaurant with an extensive menu that spans the globe. There’s curry, burritos, pasta, Greek meze, pizzas, burgers — you name the popular world foodstuff and they’ll probably serve it. That’s not to say that they are jacks-of-all-trades, masters of none; the food is perfectly acceptable. I just find it hard to get overly excited about having a meal here. By having such a broad menu, they have perhaps stretched the kitchen slightly too far. But if you are after a relaxed venue for a lively dinner or lunch, especially with a big group, then you won’t go far wrong with Red Peppers. The Mailbox canal side location makes it a good place for a meal to kick off a good night of cocktail swigging fun.

Nicely located on the edge of the ‘outdoorsy bit’ a technical term of the Mailbox, a great place to enjoy a spot of lunch in the sunshine. Nice salads and sandwiches menu with a good range of beers, wines and soft drinks. Salmon ciabatta with herb mascarpone hit the spot and the chips were perfect not too many, not too few, piping hot with just the right amount of crunch. I do like a good chip.

We live literally next door and have only recently decided to try this place. We always thought it looked a little lack-lustre from the outside but we are very glad we decided to venture in. Once inside, we were impressed with how nice it was and the staff were very nice. It was EXTREMELY busy(lots of christmas staff meals there it looked like) but our order of 4 meals arrived within 5 mins of ordering! Amazing! The food was lovely too. The only reason they are losing a star is because their menu is not marked with any ‘V’ for vegetarian dishes and as two of four of us were Vegetarian, it took us awhile to look through the menu to figure out what we could eat or not. It would be very helpful if Red Peppers could use the simple system which most other restaurants use of simply marking a ‘V’ next to dishes which are vegetarian. We are very glad we decided to try the place though and we left impressed.

The food in red peppers is fantastic. Its definitely worth a visit. The prices are not too bad for its locaion. A restaurant in the mailbox could be expected to be over priced but for the quality, the price is good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would love to go back whenever i can. They even gave us a 10% discount for our next visit. the garlic bread is amazing!

This is a lovely restaurant where you always get service with a smile! With reasonable prices at both lunch and dinner service, Red Peppers has something to offer everyone. This is one of the busiest restaurants in the Mailbox complex and you are always gauranteed to find it full so reservations are a must for larger parties. The great menu offers a delicious variety of food with mostly mediterranean and Italian influences. Red Peppers is child friendly and caters for all. Although it is a large restaruant with two floors it can feel a little cramped inside sometimes — but this is usually only when I haven’t already reserved a table. The food is always spectacular and made to a clear high standard. A particular favourite of mine is the moussaka which tastes as good as it did two years back when I first discovered Red Peppers. The bar menu is equally fantastic, with many cocktails to choose from and prices you would expect at the Mailbox but with larger glasses. I have organised christmas parties here for the past two years and it has always been the perfect venue, the staff and the great manager are always more than helpful and go out of thier way to make the occasion something to remember. It is the ideal location for a celebration or just a meal out — just remember to pre-book!

This Italian(mainly) restaurant was great fun, and the food was generally fabulous. There were 22 of us and the waiting staff brought the food to the tables as quickly as we could have hoped for, and was generally well received by all. I started with the Natchos: a huge plate full of warm corn chips with sour cream, guacamole and refried beans among other delights. Too much for me to finish as I didn’t want to spoil my main course. Main course was salmon fillet on a bed of cous cous with spicy Morroccan butter. Hot and really delicious. Most of the rest of the party enjoyed their freshly cooked pizzas and other pasta dishes. Drinks were bought at the bar before we sat down, but no problem attracting the waiting staff to get us refills. My only niggle was the lack of space allocated to our party. When we arrived we were the only large party there, but we had been given a non-too generous table right by the door. Given the available space, I would have thought that we could have been spread out a little better. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the food and considering the quality, the value was also excellent. Pizzas were around £7 each, and my salmon dish was £12. Do try it, you won’t be disappointed.
