This week has been all about estate agents. Today, in particular, was all about Oulsnam. So far, in our hunt for a house to rent, I have only met one member of estate agency staff who seemed remotely enthusiastic about the properties that they are trying to let out. Sadly, Oulsnam’s man was no exception to the rule and didn’t seem particularly fussed about any of the places we looked at. While this might sound like a relief from the hard sell it actually makes you feel a bit concerned: if they can’t get enthusiastic about their own properties, how can we? Again, the chap showing us round didn’t know a single thing about the properties. It must be estate agency policy to send the person that knows least about the property to do the viewing — as every agency we’ve seems to do this. The administration charges are pretty steep too. As with other agencies, all the positives come from the staff in the offices. Beth rang me later to see how the viewings went — which none of the other agencies did — and was able to answer all my queries on on particular property as well as clearing up various things with the landlord.
