Being based in the middle of a busy roundabout and near Broad Street and Hurst Street it’s understandable where they got the inspiration for their name«Second city liquor». Although the shop has an ideal location for clubbers it is probably more of a convenience store. The prices wouldn’t cause much damage to your bank account but to be honest there are other local off licenses that sell a wider selection of spirits and for a better price. The shop was very bland and felt like they stuck to the minimum. So it would be nice if they could have better décor, even having some pictures on the wall would make the place more visually appealing. On the other hand the guys who work there always seem friendly and willing to chat, which is nice and it would make me want to go there if I was in the area but not go out of my way to shop there.

Second City Liquor is situated on the corner of that strange roundabout with the big Chinese statue in it, just down the round from New Street Station and opposite the O2 Academy. Despite the name(to be honest, Costcutter’s just up the street has a better spirits selection) it’s probably best described as a convenience store, the kind of place you pop in to on your way to somewhere else to grab an energy drink, cigarettes, a few beers or a pre packaged snack. There’s not a great deal of «wow» factor about Second City Liqour — it is not particularly cheap(though maybe a bit cheaper than it’s nearest competitors), it is not easy on the eye and the selection sticks very closely to the bare minimum. However, the guys who run the shop always seem chatty, and this was probably enough to make me choose this shop over the others in the area offering the same service. It would be nice if they did something(anything) with the store though…
