All i wanted was speakers man, every shop up the soho road seems to have thrown quality control out the window, one electric store i went in just sold ceramic plates and wheel barrows. All i want are speakers. Going in here i knew i had found my place, the shop keeper next door looked at me like i was an alien so like hell am i giving him any cash money. The selection of speakers in Shad’s were great, but they mainly stocked mobile phones and spare computer parts. There was a jam packed internet café at the back of the shop full of kids checking Facebook. Not sure of the costs but i imagine doing anything but quickly checking your emails or social networks would be difficult as the noise level was high. They had the speakers i wanted at a price i was happy with but offerent no warranty, like i care? im never going back here again anyway.

We visited Shad Services on our seemingly endless hunt for computer speakers down Soho Road. You’d think it would be easy to find such a thing amongst the plethora of weird and random shops here, many dedicated to electrical items, but no; not so easy. After visiting five or six shops, including one which also sold furry blankets, cots and LED religious paraphernalia, I spotted Shad and we ran in out of the rain to see what they had in stock. After coming from the store next door where the young guy didn’t understand a word we said and seemed really nervous, it was refreshing to be greeted warmly by the assistant(even though he blantantly had a sales spiel that would give any Turkish market trader a run for his money). The assistant at Shad was clearly on the charm offensive and eager to sell. He had lots in stock; all graded items such as mobile phones, hi-fis, speakers, watches and even an Internet café at the back. He showed us some great little speakers for £20 but refused to give us any kind of warranty. That’s right — no returns or refunds at all. Hardly fills you with confidence in your purchase does it? We bought the speakers regardless after testing them and vowed never to return to Soho Road.
