Pretty decent bar in the heart of Birmingham gay village. Be sure to check with the bar staff about offers as they don’t advertise them too clearly around the place :) Djs on Fridays and Saturdays playing pretty standard pop and dance tracks… for me it’s somewhere I stop in for a drink before heading elsewhere rather than a place for a full on night out.

I’m biased. I’m a raver of sidewalk. I love the staff, the dj and even the bathroom attendant gets a hug from me. Two bottles for £6 yes please. Randomness spotted in the dance floor standard practise. Great vibe. Great music. But I am biased because I love the dj. That man literally saved my Life!

Great little bar for a few drinks. Usually a younger crowd here but they have a great DJ on at the weekends. Fantastic drink offers throughout the week too.

Nice enough through the week. Wednesdays they have started a pub quiz from 8pm which isn’t the most taxing, but fun to get involved. 2 meals for £10 on selected meals and decent prices of drinks. Great through the day and early evening for a quiet chat. Weekends can turn a bit too boisterous for my liking though.

Dreary sometimes, but not the worst place to go.

Had the 3-course Sunday lunch — the meat was real dry and the veggies were mediocre. Wouldn’t recommend it. Need to pay more attention to detail in terms of cleanliness of cutlery, glassware etc.

On a night out with a friend of mine, she took me to the gay quarter for a night of fun. I use to go to Nightingales for their £1 a drink special and have been to a couple of the other bars a number of times, one of which use to be called Angels. We use to go there quite a lot but as my friend now lives in London we hadn’t been for a while. I didn’t know the place had been bought out and refurbished, when we arrived I was instantly impressed. From the outside the lights made the place look stylish and inviting. When we walked in we were greeted by smiles all round and a funky bass line. I’d say it was 50⁄50 male and female in there which gave the place a great vibe as the other places I’ve been in the area had a predominantly male crowd.

I used to like this when it was Angels — and only realised last week that it had been taken over! It still has the awesome sectioned off seating out front where on hot summer evenings like we’ve had lately they can open up the front and have tables and chairs spilling out onto the pavement. It’s an awesome place to go and have a delicious cocktail and do some people watching, and being in such a prime location in the heart of the village it offers plenty for the eyes to see! I’m extremely pleased to see the menu now has delicious and tempting options on that cater even to my specific needs and next time I go I’m going to try their mediterranean vegetarian ratatouille with tagliatelle pasta — sounds tasty, and if the weather perks back up again I hope I can have it al fresco!

Sidewalk — This place is awesome to say the least! Sidewalk; in the heart of Birmingham’s Hurst street, formerly known as The Angel, is the place to be seen, whether your after fine-dining, drinks and cocktails, coffee and people-watching, or a good night out with music to mingle… I visited this bar & restaurant today and took my mother there for a slap up lunch, being a landmark Birthday for her, and initially thought I may struggle for options, both being veggies. The service was great, and the place was immaculate, with ceiling to floor windows, luxurious fittings and comfy sofas that you almost fall asleep in. The food isn’t too over priced, but you get what you pay for. I tried the Halloumi cheese and salad option with beetroot, whilst my mother had chips, garlic bread and a plethora of a few other things. If you like good food, at a reasonable price in comfortable surroundings, this is the place to be. There are also several alternatives if you like your meat with a good hearty menu. The refurb of Sidewalk has done the place wonders. It also draws a large following on most weeknights, with locals tippling on champagne, wines, cocktails etc. The downstairs bar is fitted out with beautiful velvet seating, and welcoming lights that add an atmosphere of curiosity — the perfect venue for a date! Whether your looking for a place to relax and have a coffee, a nice decent meal or a good evening out, this place will not fail to please. So, what are you waiting for? I loved it, will certainly be going back, and maybe even hire out a booth or two…
