After a recent chat with fellow Unilocaler Emma C about cool places in Cotteridge, I remembered that I hadn’t reviewed Sophie’s Pizza, a terrible oversight on my part. Sophie’s Pizza is amazing. The staff are friendly, there’s a seating area inside and out, it’s cheap and cheerful and the food is really good. The pizza can be a little on the greasy side, but you don’t order a pizza for the health benefits. My favourite has to be the Italian BBQ. They also do huge bowls of pasta with homemade sauce(it is home made as well, I watched them make it once) and what ever toppings you want. There are burgers too, which are huge! They also have a lunch menu, served til 3pm with wraps, baguttes, jacket spuds and paninis. Cheap, cheerful and tasty. Sophie’s Pizza is my favourite spot to grab lunch/dinner/second breakfast in Cotteridge.

Every time you go to Cotteridge you notice another Sohpie’s outlet. There are now three, and this is the one dedicated to pizzas. There is a small seating area outside, but you’ll be sitting in British weather and on a traffic island next to the busy Pershore Road, so it’s neither Rome nor romantic. That said, it’s nice they’ve made an effort for their punters. Their pizza is pretty good, not amazing, but pretty good and comes at a reasonable price. It’s entirely possible that the three Sophie’s outlets currently dotted either side of the traffic island in Cotteridge are connected by a series of underground tunnels, and that those in charge are secretly colonising the hub of B30 by stealth, taking over the shop units from a subterranean operations base. At some point Cotteridge will be renamed Sophietown.

As you’ve probably already established because of the name this Pizza parlour is an extension of the Sophie’s empire which already boasts an award winning fish and chip shop. Obviously having one establishment of such a high standard means that expectations are high in terms of the food here, I’m happy to say that they have lived up to said expectations and then some. If you choose to order from Sophie’s and you are a fan of spicy food then the Chef’s Special is one for you with spicy beef and chicken, red onions and the freshest chilli’s in the Birmingham area. It’s a spicy taste sensation which has always left me wanting more. As well as great food the prices are equally great with extra large pizza’s starting from just twelve pounds fifty. This place is definitely worth considering if you are sick of being left penniless by the likes of Dominos and their competitors.

Sophie’s is monopolising Cotteridge these days with a fish and chip shop, a pizza and fast food outlet and a ‘Sophie’s 2′ which I assume does a bit of everything all within a couple of minutes of each other. Back in the day on breaks at college my friends and I would find someone to drive to this place, grab a pizza and eat it in the car on a side road as if it was a dirty little secret of ours. However, keeping this place a secret would be a crime! The pizza here is a-mazing! Recently I returned and tried a ‘Tricolore’ pizza which had goats cheese, mozzarella, basil, asparagus and tomato and I was really impressed. The cheese was nice and stringy and for someone who hates crusts I munched those down as well. As well as pizzas they do burgers, paninis, pasta, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and wraps. A lady after me picked up a bargain with a burger meal(including a chicken/beef/veggie burger with fries and a can) for £3.
