I was very impressed with this little gem in harborne. Once an actual butchers, now transformed into a very cool bar with all the characteristics of a butchers including the plastic flaps to the beer garden, the freezer doors and the butchers counter. This place seems to attract alot of hipster and cool folk. Maybe it’s the large range of bottled craft beers available, or the legendary fried chicken, or maybe the beer garden with a bar and vibrant atmosphere. Either way this place is worth checking out and the food is amazing, my favourite being the mac and cheese and bacon balls, deep fried and delicious. The craft beers are quite pricey which is why i give 4 stars, however the ale and cider on draught is cheaper. Located on the high St, with a cash point opposite, i recommend this place.

I have now visited twice and I’m going back for a third time next week! First of all, I love the story behind Butcher’s Social. I love that it used to be a butchers and that it was only going to be open one week but it’s still going. You’d probably walk past the location at the top of Harborne Hight St if you didn’t know it was there, but it’s always full. Decoration is minimal– they’ve added in a couple of service counters, a bar and a few seats and tables but that’s part of the quirky charm. The first time, I had the salted caramel wings which are now a classic. I was a bit hungover so I couldn’t fully appreciate them– I definitely need to retry. The wings are huge, meaty and fried perfectly, then tossed in whichever sauce you have chosen. I had half a kilo for £6 and this was plenty for one person. The second time, I was there for the I Choose Birmingham night, when we had a box o’ chicken and a cocktail for £15. The box contained two chicken wings, hot sauce, chicken poppers, pork crunch and fries with chicken salt. I can”t even start on how good the fries were. It was nice to have the wings plain and then add the hot sauce on myself. Still hungry, Edd and I shared mac and cheese balls and half a kilo of buffalo wings. The sauce on the wings was fantastic– hot but not so much that it burnt your tounge off. The mac and cheese balls were like filthy arancini and we thought we could taste truffle oil too. Throughout the evening we sampled some different drinks from the bar. Edd loved his Crimson King cider, but be warned, it’s pretty strong. I tried a few different cocktails and particularly liked the Rhubarb and Custard, made with Advocaat and Rhubard syrup. We spent most of the evening in the heated marquee at the back. There was plenty of seating here. Butchers Social will be closing in January and I’ve heard all sorts of rumours about what they’ll be up to next. As long as I can still get their fantastic wings I’ll be happy! If you haven’t been yet, definitely get in soon. Check their facebook or twitter for the week’s menu.

I’ve reviewed the wings, but now I’m here to write about the brunch. Finally had a chance to stop in before 3PM for brunch, and man oh man, I was not disappointed. It may just be that I am a breakfast food lover, but I think the Butcher’s Social brunch experience may be superior to the wings experience. The menu changes weekly, but I got the ‘Breakfast Salad’, which was a soft boiled egg, roasted heirloom tomatoes, chorizo, crispy bacon and chicory atop an english muffin. My other half got the eggs benedict. Neither disappointed. Brunch items range from £5 — £8, so not bad at all considering the quality. Coffee was good, but a bit weak for me. Right now they have a strawberry cider in from Barbourne Cider that is to die for. Basically, get brunch at the Butcher’s Social. It is good. It is worth it.
What a lovely surprise this place was. I visited on the off chance with a friend. At first I didn’t think much of it. But I was blown away on how good the food is here. Such a unique surrounding in a deconstructed butchers shop. Definaitly one of my new places to hang out in. Very much recommended. Enjoy Also please check out
