Been here before with a group of people, service is ok. It’s a decent place to have a bite to eat or drink before seeing a show at the Hippodrome as it’s just opposite to where this place is located.

As Emma says, this is a great little spot for people watching. Located just over the way from the Hippodrome theatre, this venue is just on the confines of the Arcadian Centre and easy to get to from New Street and Hurst Street. It’s a relaxed café bar which offers a range of foodie options(from light bites to a full pre-theatre menu). It’s not posh, but has a nice atmosphere and offers a range of tables to either sit and sip a coffee/cocktail or enjoy a meal. I have had a couple of meetings here and the place has served it’s purpose. Well priced tea and coffee provided in a decent backdrop. I haven’t eaten here, so can’t comment on the quality of the food — but other people around me were eating and it looked A OK. I don’t think this venue is anything to shout about, but it’s well positioned as a place to drop by, grab a drink and watch the world go by.

Went along to see the salsa class in action. We only ordered a few beers, so i can’t say I’ve expereience this bar properly, but it was great to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere in this buys little area:) Service was quick and food looked tasty. Will have to come back and maybe revise my review:)

I know its been reviewed to death but I HAD to write about this place, simply because for people watching — or at least watching people struggle with the table service concept and grow increasingly cross when their chips fail to materialise — it can’t be beaten. The ambiance tends to vary according to what’s on at the Hippodrome(which is just over the road) so at Christmas its families having a quick dinner before the panto and at the moment(Dirty Dancing is on) vast swathes of ladies chuckling ‘nobody puts baby in the corner’ into their white wine spritzers. Actually despite my snippy comments the bar staff are actually pretty good. The food is okay and they have a decent selection of lagers and beers. Opening/closing times are a bit unpredictable — they tend to close earlier if there’s nothing on at the theatre.

Great little coffee house which is perfect for to enjoy a pre-show drink at before you head over to watch a theatre show at the Hippodrome. I recently took my mum to watch a show and as were a good hour early, we decided to go for a coffee. I’d never been in here before, and if I’m honest I didn’t even know that it existed as I only normally go to the bars in the Arcadian! We were served by a young girl who was extremely pleasant and chatty. She had just moved here from France and her accent gave us a complete European coffee drinking experience which my Mum loved. Although we only popped in for a coffee, the restaurant side of the Bistro looked busy and the food appetising. We have already decided that next time we go to a show we will pre-book a table to sample their dinner menu beforehand.

The Coffee house does a nice line in cream teas and and also offers some decent grub that help it keep it’s position as a reliable place to stop off in China town for an afternoon tea, coffee or a bite to eat. With a large out door area and sofas inside, there’s the choice of getting cosy or sitting and watching human traffic passing in the street outside. As the evening approaches the Coffee room serves as a perfect venue to get warmed up and begin your night out at and sees a range of clientele so you’ll never get bored of the locals. Stylish without being pretentious, Coffee Rooms serves food throughout the day and offers a range of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, managing to attract a wide age range, a stylish family bar in a great location.

Further proof that simplicity should never be underrated, the Coffee Room is as good for a morning beverage or pre-theatre bite to eat as it is for a dose of coffee or pre-drinks ahead of a big night out in Arcadian or around Hurst Street. The spacious and pleasant self-appointed ‘bar and bistro’ is a great addition to the Chinatown lineup, as it offers something different to the generic bars and clubs and perfectly complements the Hippodrome over the road. Whenever I treat my mom to a show at the theatre, we usually head to here if we have time to chill before the show and then the Dragon Inn if we fancy a wee tipple after. I haven’t experienced the full possibilities offered up by the menu, although it always looks very nice — I can state though, without a shadow of a doubt, that the full English is a satisfying beast of a brekky despite being pricier than the neighbouring Wetherspoons. Coffees and teas have always been satisfying, while soft drinks and other options are available for those who don’t like their hot drinks. The bar is also host to the usual array of beers you would expect if you plan on hitting here for a relaxed start to a big night out, and you can expect to get served quickly as the place starts to empty out after 8pm. The table area outside is also a great spot to chill with a drink and people watch whenever we’re lucky enough to get a bit of sun.
