Last night I had not only one of the best meals I have had in Birmingham but possibly one of the best I have had ever… The Two Cats is something seriously special. From the minute you walk in you have a warm welcome from the friendly staff, you are then quickly seated and shown the drinks menu. Our waitress was more than happy to talk through the wine options, took our order and went to get us some fresh bread. Now I wouldn’t usually mention the bread before a meal but this really was amazing. The bread was fresh and warm and the butter was salted and smoked. It was the perfect start to the 7 course taster menu we then went onto experiance. The highlights for me were the broccoli starter, the goats cheese ravioli and the incredible onion broth. The devil is in the detail here. The fact the restaurant is hidden down an alleyway between two shops, the superb service and the delicate and detailed dishes make this a pretty unforgettable experience. 100% recommended.

Two Cats in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter has to be my favourite place to eat in the city. The setting is beautiful, the menu is really interesting and the service is great. I visited a few months ago for a slap up meal with my boyfriend(we’ll be going back again very soon). The restaurant is located just opposite the ‘golden square’ in the middle of the Jewellery Quarter, along a short passageway. The building was probably once a workshop of some kind, and this is still evident in the restaurant, which has an industrial feel but is still cosy. The menu is seasonal and changes, but all of the dishes are inspired by the flavours of the Baltic region. For £40 you get to make your way through a mouthwatering menu of 7 small(ish) plates. It is well worth the money. I found each dish equally delicious and really interesting, with some unusual flavour combinations. With each dish the chef came to the table to explain what we had and where it came from. From the first course of bright pink beetroot soup(not as simple as it sounds), through to the last course everything was just superb. Even the bread accompanying the meal deserves a mention — really tasty with delicious smoked butter. I could go on. If you’re after an out-of-the-ordinary dining experience in Birmingham look no further.

My wife and I have been in England and Scotland for 3 weeks. Two Cats serves, by far, the best meal we’ve eaten. They have a seven course small plates, Latvian inspired, menu. Each course was a unique surprise and offered a mixture of flavors. Where else can you get a borscht inspired beet soup, an insanely flavorful onion broth with goat cheese ravioli or something I’ve never dreamed of, a sweet sorrel leaf sandwich with granola inside. That’s oversimplifying the menu. The staff is knowledgeable and the chef comes out several times to insure you’re satisfied and understand what he’s trying to do.
