What a let down of a café! No toilet, small, service is slow. What I’d also like to point out is their pricing, £3.20 for a biscuit, food that was £5 at their previous Newhall Street café is now £8. I could list many more items but you get the idea. It doesn’t have that welcoming vibe of the old café, it is not a place where I’d like to go to work for a few hours. Food is fair, tea and coffee is good. Just their pricing!

For a cool, laid back coffee with cake, Yorks has got it just right as an inner city coffee shop. Play monopoly for hours here sometimes just watching a Sunday go by…

Costy little place with bags of charm and character located right by Birmingham New Street Station. I liked the old location of Yorks but it feels like they have really upped the quality levels for this new venture. Myself and Emma M visited this place for a late breakfast today. It’s a great place to work as the WIFI is decent and the café is light and airy, my only warning is there are only about 6 big tables so if you want one of them you have to move pretty quickly. The rest of the seating is bar style in the window areas of the café… great for a quick drink but not if you want to settle with your laptop. I went for the smashed avocado or sourdough bread with chilli and lime. When my plate hit the table I was a little concerned about the portion size but the flavour and presentation more than made up for it. I decided to have a earl grey tea to accompany it which was one of the best I have ever had. it’s a great touch that they give you loose leaf tea instead of bags, the flavour is intense and you get a good few cups out of the pot. I find it hard to find fault it here. Beautiful café, great menu and well made drinks… spot on really!

Popped into here today for a quick coffee, this place looks so quirky and cosy. In regards to the atmosphere and décor there is a lot going on. If you did manage to get a seat its a good place to just sit back and gaze out at passers by watching the world go round or do some work, write or just listen to music. They have plus sockets under each bench so i think work/sitting there to charge devices is encouraged. so good location to work from too and its literally next door to new street station. Coffee was of good quality and not very expensive. didn’t try any of the food but will be back soon.

Loved the old York’s and this one is much closer for me! Near new St station in a lovely corner building, it’s different to the old one but not when it comes to the drinks. It’s a dark cosy room with plenty of seating and cushions to make things comfy. They have sandwiches, snacks and cakes. Despite that, I’ll definitely be back for coffee and cakes. The coffee is not too strong but is tasty. A great flat white. They also have a variety of lovely loose leaf teas. I had a ‘bleeding heart’ cake made with raspberry, rose and I think almond. This was sweet fragrant and delicious. Brilliant place to pop into for a drink if you’re in the area!

Upon my exit of Grand Central station, I happened upon Yorks which I had been intending to try out for some time. Venturing in for a much need coffee, snack and sit down, I was delighted by the place. It is extremely small which doesn’t matter in the slightest unless there is a few of requiring seating. I ordered a regular latte and chocolate and pistachio cookie which was heavenly! The prices are reasonable, the produce excellent and décor is quaint. I would encourage anybody to try here rather than your standard chain coffee shops which are two a penny and can’t come close.

I was a fan of the last place and despite a few moans on the grape vine I’m a fan of this place too. I absolutely adore how it looks, it’s cosy and you’ve gotta get there early or no seat for you I imagine. The buttered eggs are as good as I remember them. They seem to be having a few teething issues with the orders going through to the kitchen but from the chatter they’re trying to get that resolved because well — it’s making more work for them. Conveniently there’s plugs under every bench seat so if you can get a place it’s a great location to work. Having this place a 2 minute walk from new street station is handy when the weathers bad but you really want those buttered eggs. I can see some new items on the menu as well as the old favourite, gotta try that Shakshuka. I think I’ve found one of my local favourites. Could even dash here on my early shift pattern.

I had been looking forward to this breakfast for a week! Knew I would be in Brum after an early start so was looking for tasty breakfast stops, and my my how Yorks delivered! I knew what I was going to order as I’d bookmarked them on Unilocal and checked out their menu online. A laid back vibe with wood and metal(sort of industrial but not in an unpleasant way as there are beautiful cushions printed in cool designs on all of the seats). I went for the avocado and feta mash on sourdough toast, which was every bit as good as I had imagined it. Tangy lime and zingy sumac/chilli mix made for the best breakfast one could wish for. Service with a smile & tasty tasty coffee. I was one happy refreshed visitor after a 5 hour train journey dreaming of avocado ;)
