I’m giving this place four stars because it is in the centre of Blackpool and you are not taking your life in your hands by entering it! Those unfamiliar with the centre of Blackpool can be reassured that downtown Beirut on a bad day can look like a villiage in the Cotswolds compared to this town-competing stag parties, rampaging drunks looking for someone with a «little too much mouth»(just a slight glance can set them off!). It can be a tad hairy at night when in season. However, this JDW is not like that despite its central location. First, it is very large, with a really big straight bar at the back and enough space to be reassured you will find a seat. There is always a few real ales on as well as the range of very reasonably priced beers and spirits. The food is the JDW staples and none the worse for it. The name of the pub has something to do with a story about. well, Peter and the lion. I can’t recall what, but there are quite nice pieces that realte to the title. Overall this place is somewhere I could happilly spend a night in, though to be fair and honest I have only ever been early evening.

Wetherspoons are normally a reasonable prices Venus as they don’t have music or live entertainment so can save money on the licence fees and pass that saving on to the customer !!! Well not this one as the prices are astronomical being on Blackpool promenade, if you are on holiday go to the one on Lytham road where the locals drink

Water contamination in Blackpool, but this doesn’t mean you can’t serve hot drinks, so when I go to order 2 large full English breakfast and then told I can’t have a hot drink, you can be imagine my dismay. Hot drinks are part of a cooked breakfast. It’s your loss as we went back to our usual café and got better served. You could have had regular custom but why should we bother, if you can’t. United utilities specifically say that you can drink the water if boiled.

I got dragged into here for lunch after a walk around Madame Tussaud’s. Oh joy. I’m not really a fan of Wetherspoons pubs at the best of times, so I knew that this Blackpool seafront-based bad boy would be a meat market to say the least. Aaaaaand I was right. You couldn’t move for rowdy,(no doubt, STD-riddled) midday drinkers, ugly, screaming babies in prams and the usual badly-dressed northern seaside resort scumbags. The food menu was as dire as I’d expected so while my friends ordered jacket potatoes and the like, I opted for a slice of warm chocolate fudge cake with ice cream. I thought this would be a safe bet, I mean you can’t f*** up cake, right? WRONG. The cake arrived as cold as the ice cream beside it and had about as much flavour as a pint of water. «Oh well, it was only £3.50!» someone exclaimed. Oh, so that’s alright then, is it? Look, people go to Whetherspoons because it’s cheap, but it’s cheap because it’s dreadful. And for that reason, I’M OUT.

Seems like a nice pub with decent food. They even let you know how many calories there are in a dish… scary stuff! I would however recommend that you check the utensils before use… they aren’t all that clean.

New Wetherspoons pub on Blackpool promenade very close to the Tower, been open since July 2010 and we visited during the first week. Plenty of ale choice that you would expect from a JDW pub, most of which were on top form. The décor of the place is as you would expect(given its newness and JDW’s attention to space and detail) very impressive(you can’t fail to spot the Albert and the Lion story on the wall, and the lion wall-hanging with two feet popping out of its mouth). The service was very good too, knowledgeable and friendly, maybe because they want to make a good impression during the early days of its business. Time will tell whether it survives and flourishes, particularly during the quiter winter months(and especially during the week when visitors are less frequent), but I for one hope it does and will continue to pop in. They might need to consider doing something with the doors(maybe get a revolving set?) as the weather and winds will soon have them deteriorating and slamming before you know it.
