One of the best pints in Bolton is the timewarp that is Barristers. Right in the heart of Bolton’s town centre, amongst a throng of grim looking chain pubs and novelty bars is this cracking little ale house. With absolutely nothing flash about the place, you’ll be glad to know that it lets the beer and craic do the talking. There’s an excellent range of real ales(some of them going for scandalously cheap prices — some are under £2) which are often served in old school dimple glasses. Smokers can utilise the big old courtyard which is partly covered, should the inevitable rain come along. Better yet, there’s a piano in the corner which some people just sit at and play for pints(one such occasion saw the resident tinkler taking requests and gamely honky tonking his way through an ironic shout for ‘something by Metallica’) The punters are a mix of old codgers with a penchant for spinning a hilarious yarn and younger heads who want to escape the WKD crowd from the nearby Swan Hotel. It’s nice and dark like a pub should be and very easy to end up trolleyed after going for ‘just the one’. What a great place!
