The Strawberry Duck is particularly popular with walkers as it is located close to Entwistle and Wayoh Reservoirs. Inside they have gone for a dated look which sits well with the image of an old fashioned ale drinkers pub which they appear to be looking for. They also serve food for those that have worked up an appetite walking around some of Bolton’s more picturesque areas. The pub itself gets extremely busy at peak walking times, especially Sunday afternoons so you may have to wait a little while, however it is worth it. I’ve visited 4 or 5 times for food and a few more times for a beer. I will most certainly be back there again in the near future, and I would recommend an Autumn walk around Entwistle to get you in the mood for a lovely meal!

If you’re looking for a nice country pub with a homely feel then look no further. Set out in the countryside, it’s the perfect place to stop off during your walk and enjoy a locally brewed pint and some good old pub grub.

What an amazing find, we went for a walk around the Entwhistle area and came across this delightful place. The Strawbury Duck is a proper traditional pub with real fires and lots of interesting nooks and crannies. In fact we liked the look of it so much we decided to stay for the lunch. The place was extremely busy which we took to be a good sign, we had to wait around 20 minutes for a table but it was well worth the wait. The menu had lots of tasty and traditional pub food options. I chose the falafel burger with sweet potato fries which was extremely good. Everything was homemade and cooked just right. As it was a Sunday my partner had the roast. There were 4 roasts to choose from and the beef option didn’t disappoint. The meat was cooked just right and the Yorkshire pudding was massive and very light and fluffy. It was accompanied by lots of veg and good quality roast potatoes. It’s also worth noting that dogs are allowed in the pub and you can even buy them a doggie dinner. We will definitely be back again as the area that surrounds it is so pretty for walking and we know we’ll get a superb lunch at the Strawbury Duck. We just need to make sure we book ahead next time.
