Maybe I’m getting old but I love a wee browse in Gibb Stuart. Its not your typical hardware store. Sure, there’s the man stuff — screws and tools, etc but if you like cooking then its the kitchen stuff which is great. Gibbs does fab kitchen utensils, from the basics such as wooden spoons, through to specialist baking tools and liners. They also stock Le Creuset and often have special offers and deals on — if you are a fan its worth it for the saving and the range is fab, from the cast iron pots, to soufflé dishes and mugs in a host of colours. I don’t live locally anymore but I try and pop in when I can — whether its for a house warming gift or bin bags, its a great local gem. Its worth checking out their window displays at Christmas — they are legendary!

An attractive combination of old fashioned hardware store and gift shop with a wide selection and pretty good customer service. Don’t expect it beat B&Q for price on standard issue stuff like paint and mops, but where else can you pop in for a packet of rawl plugs and also pick up a watch, a Porsche branded kettle, and some new stationery?

Gibb Stuart is a reverse tardis. You could not believe that anyone could put this much stuff in this space. Unlike B&Q this caters across all of the categories that used to be called hardware(unlike DIY). So you will find corners stuffed with pots and cooking tools, fireplaces, handtools towels etc. I would not be able to list them all. Most of the goods are decent quality and will get the job done. More importantly the scurrying employess will be able to tell you where to find what you need. If you are local and need something in the hardware category — get your butt in here.

Gibb Stuart(or Gibbs as its known locally) is very pretty for a hardware store in much the same way that Zac Efron is very pretty for a boy. The window displays are always more gift shoppy than hardwarey and they have a delightful Mothers Day display at the moment. I have noticed that women tend to use the nice, lovely front entrance to this store which leads them past the ornaments and candles and the men tend to prefer the manly back entrance which takes them straight to the manly goods such as hammers and saws and such like. Gibbs sells all manner of things and I don’t know what most of them are supposed to be used for but they look very interesting! There are bizarre kitchen appliances and strange gardening implements and all sorts. I like to take a jaunt down to Gibbs for little things that I can’t be bothered traipsing all the way to a supermarket for. Things like light bulbs and batteries. I also had my keys made different colours at Gibbs because I need 6 keys to get into my flat and trust me, after a few vinos it can be a struggle to remember which key goes with which lock. However if you are more adventurous with your hardware needs there are some strapping men kicking about who can help you pick the perfect chainsaw for that chainsaw related DIY project you are working on you manly mans man you, grrrrr!

Gibb Stuarts is a hardware store which sells just about everything! They have a beautiful range of household goods and you can always guarantee you will get an unusual wedding/house warming/birthday/Christening gift here. The best time to shop here is at Christmas when the window display is lovely and festive and really brightens up the area of the High Street and the range of Christmas decorations are really good and reasonably priced. We always buy our real Christmas tree here, and they also do a fabulous range of artificial trees. Staff are very helpful and knowledgable about their stock and will go out of their way to assist.
