The McArthur Glen outlet village in Bridgend is a days worth of bargains waiting to be discovered. The amount of shops on offer will have the average shopaholic foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog at the mere mention of a trip here. With everything from Levi’s and Calvin Klein to Sidoli’s Ice Cream and Cadbury’s, McArthur Glen offers something for everyone, but the real allure of this venue is the prices. A far cry from the expensive price tags you will find in the Cardiff versions of these shops, the amount of bargains on offer in their McArthur Glen counterparts is enough to give David Dickinson a partial stroke. It’s a refreshing change to find yourself with a handful of items at the checkout without having to worry about re-mortgaging your house afterwards. Even better than the shops themselves, there is also a cinema within the complex; which provides a great get out clause for any would be baggage handling husband while the wife combs every inch of the shops on offer. A trip here may be out of the way, but well worth it for the money saved.

I went here shortly after my cousins baby was born. I was told it had a Mama’s and Papa’s outlet store which sold everything the normal store sold… only it was cheaper! I was not disappointed when I arrived an luckily enough I went on a Thursday. On a Thursday Mama’s and Papa’s offer further discounts on there all ready hugely discounted products! The shop itself sells everything from pushchairs to clothing to toys. I bought a travel cot for about £20 which is really good! Another shop I must mention is a little sweet shop. I cant remember the name but its the only one there so you won’t miss it! It sells bundles and bundles of sweets for really cheap prices. I think they must be factory rejects which doesn’t bother me one bit. Who care if your chocolate bar has a scratch on it… it will get more than that by the time I am finished with it! This is a must to visit for any bargain hunters out there. Remember what I said about Thursdays though of you are planning to visit Mama’s and Papa’s!

Ideal for those who love to shop and drop! Have your money at the ready! If you love a good bargain for quality clothes; house ornaments, games, DVD’s, music, food, house accessories, jewellery, and crafts then this is your place to be! I managed to buy two suitcases both for under a £100! I still them to this day and they are very handy, I went there over a couple of years ago to buy these and there great. I did have some white sandals; they only cost under £20. Loads of people commented on them saying how they liked them. I wore them nearly everywhere, I think I got them from the Marks and Spencer’s or from Clarks shoe shop. They both have great deals. We have been back and forth there; and I will go again, I recommend the place to all. It’s A great days out and it’s half an hour or so from Cardiff. It’s very popular and plenty of places to eat and drink and there is a huge car park too.

This is outlet store is both fantastic and highly annoying at the same time. Firstly if your after anything outdoorsy then this is a fantastic place to come, there are loads of stores dedicated to walking, skying ect. If you are shopping for fashion I would say don’t bother. There are the likes of Gap, CK where you can get some decent basics but not really your going out on Saturday night stuff. Gift shopping is pretty good here and I also seem to make a trip up at Christmas time. Its only 20 minutes from Cardiff so worth a trip and there’s plenty of parking and open late for hassle free shopping. Its also has a large food court with KFC, Pizza Hut, Jacket Potatoes, Pies, a café and more.

Bridgend Designer Outlet, or McArthur Glen, as some people still seem to know it, is a strange place just off the M4 heading towards Bridgend. I remember when it first opened; it was very, very exciting. For the first time South Wales has a selection of designer outlet stores, ranging through everything. From Cadbury to M&S, from Revlon to Whittard, and from Cotton Traders to Animal. The choice was endless. Then the excitement soon wore off, when we realised that these were just normal high street stores with things either substandard or just a little bit cheaper. This is a collection of all that is unwanted from the other shops. That being said, you can pick up some really good bargains from this place, especially from Bookends and some of the sports and camping gear shops. This is a good place to come to if you’re after functional items, but not really the kind of place which is going to wow you with its selection of wonderful boutiques. There is also a cinema and food court on site, so you can make a day of it(if there’s really nothing better to do). This place getting heaving when it’s raining outside.
