This is a cute little tea room in Brighton that serves delicious brunch food and afternoon tea. They have two floors but the place can get crowded easily and they are a little short-handed. We sat on the second floor and there was only one server taking the orders and bringing out the food. My avocado and poached eggs on toast were delicious and I hope to try their famous scones and cakes next time. Also check out their dated yet well-maintained bathroom in the backyard. They’ve decorated it with some toiletries and cosmetics from decades ago to match the history of the café/house.

Blackbird is everything you could ask for in a tea room. It’s cute and vintage. It has the adorable floral patterned china. The staff are all friendly and fun to chat to. Everything is extremely instagramable, which is a major perk for me. And their gluten free orange and almond cake is so moist and always has loads of frosting on it. I’ve been here more times than I can count and I will keep returning because I love it so much. I usually go for a fairly traditional blend, but if you like something a bit different I recommend the rosehip and hibiscus tea. Not only because it tastes lovely, but because it’s a GORGEOUS shade of pink. Love love love love.

Wasn’t impressed with this place for tea. I had their afternoon tea service with a friend, and was disappointed with the food. Firstly, the finger sandwiches. The salmon one, which I was the most excited to try, was bland and stale. It seemed as though the bread was old. The salmon itself was difficult to chew. Next was another sandwich which had some sort of onion-style dressing on it? I’m not sure. Whatever it was, it tasted horrible! Please take it off the menu. Now onto the 2nd tier, which was scones with clotted cream and jam. They were good, no complaints. The cream was nice and thick. Lastly is the desserts. Dry! The macarons were the worst. They were crunchy and broke apart easily. The filling was hard. Another dessert was a chocolate cup filled with cream and some sort of nut? Not sure. This one was good, but the cream just tasted like whip cream. Nothing fancy. Basic. Lastly was a lemon cake. It was okay, the flavour was a bit weak and on the dry side. Overall, it was a fun experience to try the different tiers… but I wouldn’t go back again for their tea service.

Beautiful little spot to stop in for coffee, tea, or a little treat. Our first time we got tea for three, a cappuccino, and we each got little treats. I got plain toast with jam and it was delicious! A friend ordered the French toast and loved it, she still raves about it. The third ordered a scone which was perfectly cooked and the clotted cream and jam were fantastic. We go back whenever we are in the area.

I came here for a birthday breakfast with my family back in January. I had the Greedy Sandwich, which consists of sausage, bacon, melted onions, mushroom and cheddar which was all placed on some really nice thick cut artisanal bread. We also found out, upon paying that we got it half price with a free coffee [or tea] as we were there before 11am. AMAZING! Really recommended for anybody who wants a great breakfast, or even just a slice of lovely cake and a tea to go with it.

Stumbled upon this place in the late morning of my arrival and it was absolutely quaint and lovely. The décor is nostalgic, the service was quick and friendly, and the pot of earl grey tea I had was soooooooo delicious. My boyfriend got avocados, poached egg and toast, which he was happy with. I went a la carte and just got a bit of smoked salmon, eggs and one piece of toast– and it was tasty. Getting to the bathroom was a little bit charming and it was very clean! All in all, it was a very enjoyable and pleasant experience dining here. Oh, and make reservations or come early to avoid a long wait– it filled up fast and there were groups waiting when we left around 11 am.

Beautiful tea rooms full of charm, incredible edibles and delightful tea and coffee! I absolutely love this place! I went here for the first time the other day and it blew my socks off. As soon as you walk in, the charming décor and vintage feel are irresistible. With vintage photos on the wall and pretty, old-fashioned crockery, this place feels like you’ve jumped back a few decades(and done so in style). I opted for the smashed avocado on bread with poached eggs and feta and it was literally incredible. It was my first time trying poached eggs(I know, please don’t judge) and they were perfection. The ingredients were all wonderfully tasty and the dish as a whole was just unbeatable. My coffee was fab too and served in a beautiful cup and saucer! :) The overall atmosphere of the place was wonderful too and the staff were particularly friendly and helpful. This is officially my new brunch/coffee spot, I’ve decided! What a winner!

Quaint little old-fashioned tea room. Order at the counter, and voilà, your cream tea appears. I had Earl Grey & a scone with clotted cream, and it was very good(as scones go — I’m not a HUGE fan of them, but this one was not bad & not nearly as dry as I’ve had!) They also have a variety of cakes, which I would have opted for instead of the scone had I been any hungrier. The girls at the counter are nice & service was right on time. WC is out back around the corner of a little garden, nicely decorated & very clean. Great stop if you’re wandering around Brighton shopping and just need a little break & a boost!

A lovely tearoom a British has recommand me. I send Blackbird a Facebook message and they answered me in the following minute, which is great. They advised me to book because it usually gets busy in the afternoon. I had no problem to find the tea room, the location is very convenient, not far from Churchill Square. The waitress who took my reservation was adorable and friendly, I can’t say the same for her collegues. Unfortunately she wasn’t working to day we went there … I really liked the decoration inside, very 40s/50s but I was a bit disappointed because the china wasn’t matching. We got the afternoon tea composed of a fruit scone with jam and cream, a pot of tea of our choice, one sandwich and a selection of cake for £12.50 per person. The cakes were ok but the tea was really good, especially the fresh milk that comes with it. The salmon sandwich with cream cheese was fresh and good but the scone was definetely not«the best scones in Brighton», it was the worst I’ve tried, very dry and doughy.

Very cute café with great retro ambiance. I’m no aficionado on cream tea but I enjoyed my Earl Grey with clotted cream and scone. Highly recommended for groups of ladies wanting to raise their pinky fingers up high.

This is a gorgeous little establishment, I love coming here to take a break from shopping. It’s vintage 1930s style interior is fab, you really feel as if you’ve been transported back 80 years and should be paying with a ration book, which incidentally they have a ration book style loyalty card which is nice and novel. Its not too stuffy though, it still combines a feeling of the 21st century — in a good way! The wallpaper is pretty and brightly coloured with birds and there’s a display of all sorts of lovely nick-nacks like original tins that used to house biscuits and old Tate & Lyle goodies. Lots of lace which works beautifully! The cakes are to die for. Seriously good, my favourite is the blackbird cake, which is a twist on a Victoria sponge which usually I’m not keen on but this is made from blackberry jam and filled with the best buttercream I’ve tasted, accompanied by strawberries and blueberries. They do a lovely cream tea as well for £6 which I think is excellent value. Everything is served in the most beautiful little china cups and saucers — a big hit with me as I am very picky about what I drink out of, I’ve got my specific mugs and cups and saucers at home, I won’t settle for anything else! There is also outside seating for those warmer days and outside is just as pretty — even the loos are great! I can definitely pretend I’m a lady when I come here. Au contraire…
