This internet café on the edge of the North Lanes provides everything you’d expect from such a place, while also throwing in a couple of unexpected surprises just for good measure. I’ve been here to do the typical printing of CV’s, electoral registration forms and various other things, but I also have ended up having a cup of lapsang souchong tea here and also buying a replacement phone charger. The café addition is a nice one, you can buy a variety of teas and coffees, as well as a number of store bought cakes. The only down side is that Café Electronica tends to be a little bit more expensive than the other internet cafes I have tried.

A nice little internet café in an extremely handy location. It’s pretty much the same rate-wise as every other net café in Brighton but has more of a relaxed café feel which I think is really important if you have work to do, just want to chill out or even spend hours playing some bizarre war roleplay games like many people seem to in net cafes recently. Just another internet café, but a very nice one in a much needed location.

My Internet Service Providers are BT, and I settled on their 10GB plan, thinking that I wouldn’t surpass 10GB a month. Well, I easily surpassed that within the span of 2 weeks. I received an email from BT saying that I exceeded my broadband usage, and that if I do it again, I would be charged £1 for every GB I go over. This is a pain because I have a large file that I need to download as part of a project. And downloading this file(and its subsequent files) would put me over the top. So I needed to go to an Internet Café to do some file downloading. Café Electronica is a great place to do just that. The area is divided into a café as well, and I was able to enjoy a coffee in-between my file downloading. As far as a coffee and Internet services go, it does the job.

I quite often find these kinds of shops(that unlock phones and buy or sell used electronics) a little on the seedy side… There’s often a distinct yet un-placeable sense that you’re entering into an underground world when you enter one of these stores. Which is why its so pleasant not to feel any of these reservations when popping in for a nose around Café Eketconica. The staff are friendly and helpful without doing that oh so irksome hard sales pitch. The prices are(for services and sales) are also pretty reasonable, but I can’t comment on whether the cash they offer for electronics is reasonable or not, as I don’t tend to sell my defunct gizmos, preferring to hang onto them for nostalgias sake. My ipod nano already looks like a relic from a bygone era, and I doubt its even 10 years old! Anywho, rose tinted spectacles aside, this is still a rocking shop that should feature highly on your list of stores to sell to or buy from. Definitely better than most.

Café Electronica is an internet café, with a prime location at the northern entrance to the North Laines; towards the bottom of Trafalgar street, just a few steps down the hill from the corner of Sidney street. The place looks great, and it’s set up with all the necessaries: A number of computers, printers, and scanners, plus a café at one side which does quite well in its own right. I’ve been there a couple of times, once to sit in for a while, before I’d hooked my flat up with an internet connection, and once quite briefly to print out a few things. The first time, I felt pretty good about the place, I sat there drinking good coffee, well made, and didn’t feel that the place was too expensive. The second time, I was disappointed. I only needed to use the internet for two minutes, but 30 minutes was the minimum allotment, so I had to pay for that, and then, at 10p per sheet, my printouts ended up costing me a fair swedge too. Adding insult to injury, they were blurry, as if their ink was due a changing. Still, for longer stays, I recommend it. If you need a long stretch and you don’t have a computer that can access one of Brighton’s many free Wifi networks, Café Electronica is a sound choice.

This is one of a number of internet cafes in the area around the station, but Electronica is certainly much more swish than most of them, and also much more of a café. There are a good number of computer terminals available, with people tapping away eagerly at all times of day. They also serve coffee and a range of other drinks and snacks if you need some refreshment while you type. They also sell a range of electronic goods, such as laptops and cameras.
