You know, I’m kind of amazed I’m 5-starring it because I’m so stingy with those, but this place was really lovely. It was Pride in Brighton, so I expected it to be unruly, like in London, but the atmosphere of the whole town was one of happiness and general merriment — and it spread to the positive attitudes of the staff. We walked in on a lark, expecting to have a long queue, since it looked quite busy, but they seated us right away in a comfy bench/chair combo. The service was friendly and they remembered to check on us and were pretty on-the-spot with running the credit card. All pluses in my book! The food and beverages were fantastic! I ordered a café au lait and my girlfriend an orange juice, which both arrived really quickly. The juice was freshly squeezed — like, so fresh she could chew it – and delicious. The coffee was perfect and came with a wee meringue balanced on the teaspoon. Charming. I got the Croque Madame and my lady the ham & scrambled egg croissant. Both were *perfect* and reasonably priced. My main came with a lightly dressed spring mix on the side. The food took a little longer to arrive than most places, but it was so good, and I was enjoying my coffee, the company and the relaxed atmosphere so much, I didn’t mind. All told, it was about £22 — which seemed more than fair. I will definitely go back here the next time I’m in Brighton.

Me and my partner love Mange tout, food is beautiful french styled classics and the breakfast is delicilous and indulgent! In the summer you can sit outside and its right in a sun trap so its lovely sitting out there and enjoying the weather ad lovely food!

Sweet little breakfast/brunch place with very good coffee and delicious egg-centric offerings. Had a difficult time deciding away from the full English(aka, Complet Mange tout, which includes two rashers of free range Sussex bacon, Toulouse sausage, roasted mushrooms, wilted spinach, tomato compote, two eggs any way & organic tartine) but ultimately opted for the version of the Les Oeufs de Mange tout(two organic poached eggs, toasted organic sourdough & hollandaise sauce) that included local Sussex bacon, tomato compote, & wilted spinach) — and it was the absolute right choice. Not too much food, yet still all the ingredients that are important to me(i.e., bacon). Completely delicious! This is a PERFECT spot for breakfast/brunch & they do a VERY nice job with atmosphere, service & most of all FOOD!

The food is ok, I just don’t find this place particularly exciting! I’ve had both lunch and dinner at Mange Tout and both failed to particularly excite me. The food wasn’t bad but I felt I could’ve got much of the same elsewhere. Saying that, the staff are always very friendly and create a nice atmosphere.

I visited this restaurant a while back with a friend and enjoyed a very nice brunch and so went back a couple of weeks ago anticipating another lovely meal. This time I was dissapointed. The cost of a breakfast/brunch is more than other similar outlets but where previously I would have found it to be very good vfm, this time it wasn’t. Previously, tap water was brought to the table without asking(very French, nice touch) this time had to ask. I asked for extra tomato in place of mushroom and got two halves of tomato, which means that a standard serving of tomato is half of one. The strangest thing though was the coffee. As a previous reviewer mentioned, this is served in glass cups and half measures. Two gulps and it was gone. Very bad vfm. I should mention that I ordered a coffee after drinking a very poor cup of tea. Strange teabag and tepid water. Much better tea and coffee served elsewhere. doubt I will go again as although the quality of the food is good it is overpriced and the ethos appears to be more focused on squeezing more profit than customer satisfaction.

Nice décor, with plenty of light. I had the crème brûlée with lemon and raspberries which was good and a chai tea. They don’t do a chai tea latte though, so this was a bit disappointing.

Mange Tout is my favourite breakfast in Brighton. I take all of my guests here and they also agree. The Mediterranean is superb and their coffees are some of the best. All around a wonderful café.

My friends and I had dinner here and it was exceptional. I had a steak tartare with garlic french bread. My friends had trout, pork belly and tartine. The food was quickly prepared, beautifully arranged, delicious and quite cheap. I’m visiting from the USA and even after the exchange rate I felt it’s prices were great. Good for either business meals, friends getting together, solo fare or a date.

Not eaten here yet, but I randomly grabbed a coffee to go on the way to the station. I was very impressed. Currently the best coffee in Brighton, tied for first place with Spinelli.

Food is good. But the main problem I have is with the staff. I’ve a lot of respect for French waiters and their professionalism but here they all seem to be more interested in their own status than the concerns of the customer. Not really recommended for breakfast, as the coffee(served in glasses) is poor. Pastries(from Cocoa?) though, are good.

This place have been transformed from an Indian take away to a French Bistro! All the other reviews are spot on! The eggs benedict is the best I have ever had — FACT! The even give you a little Meringue with your coffee! I feel proud to live here and have a place like this to come to!

Other reviewers only appear to have been here for lunch, so… The evening menu is limited to the daytime menu plus three or four specials — what I like to see, a few things done really well rather than the kitchen sink roughly scrubbed — and I haven’t been disappointed with any of them. The rillette is superb(although it does come on a piece of slate, a modern restaurant trend that I find faintly irritating since you spend your time trying to keep bits of food from drifting off the edge onto the table), the way they butter their kale is heavenly, and there’s always an imaginative twist to the meat or fish. I suggest you starve yourself all day before coming here as the combined mass of a starter and main course could be used at the racecourse for weighing in jockeys. The lighting is just about low enough to produce some atmosphere while still being able to identify your food(another of my niggles, really bright lighting in restaurants — just don’t). A quick word about the two French guys who run this — they’re brilliant, humorous, helpful, and on my first visit persuaded me to order a less expensive wine than I had intended on the grounds that they thought I would enjoy it more. Now that’s service baby.

Beautifully designed space with a delicious menu and specials board. However found service to be very slow(40 minutes) so not ideal for those on a lunch break. The steak on my tartine was served practically raw, not great when you don’t have any time left to chew. Will return when I have more time.

My absolute favourite thing to eat for lunch is a nice big bowl of mussels and chips. Its so French and always reminds me of holidays on the continent. I do get a bit naffed off with ordering this dish in the UK as they can so frequently be overcooked or tiny in size. In this place though they are excellent, huge, juicy mussels in a fantastic tasting liqure. They have some lovely white wines available to wash the whole lot down and the atmosphere in here is really relaxing. One of my favourite places to go for lunch in town!

Mange Tout is another of the North Laine café extravaganza, although it is more a restaurant. However, it is open in the days, and does serve coffee, thus making it a viable alternative to some of the busier locales in the area. However, at it’s heart, Mange Tout is a surprisingly tasty and reasonably priced French restaurant, with some really tasty French classics: well worth a try! The food here is really excellent, although it’s only open lunchtimes(except for the weekend). If you have the time, give yourself a lunchtime special: this is really exceptionally good, traditional food, cooked and served by French chefs and waiters. If you don’t know a little about French food, you may feel confused: it is all in French, but the waiters are happy to offer advice. Apart from the food, the teas and coffees here are also excellent: the prices are fine, and the selection is a little more than you’d expect from your typical North Laine café. Some places try and combine restaurant and café, and Mange Tout is one of these places that does it really well. The staff are fine with just coffee and cakes, as they are if you ask for the full menu: all is accepted and fine. And, in the North Laine area, somewhere to sit and watch the world stream by is a god-send, just don’t try and sit at midday for coffee: some angry, hungry people will give you some very dirty looks!

A French café/restaurant decorated in contemporary shades of olive and mushroom(well it is a food establishment). The staff are French and so is the menu. As a dedicated francophile, I’ve tried the onion soup, the bouchée à la reine, the pipérade and the hot chocolate which comes with a home-made melt-in-the-mouth meringue on the side. The food is seriously good, fresh and tasty. Last time I went there for lunch with my partner all the tables were full. Somehow that made me all the more keen to have my brunch there the following Sunday. There was a buzz of people enjoying each other’s company, reading the Sunday papers and watching the world go by through the large windows that give on to Trafalgar Street. At the next table a tousle-haired man complained that his croissant with chocolate dipping sauce wasn’t as large as the one he’d had last week. The waiter appeared not to think this was an outrageously cheeky comment but politely explained that all the pastries delivered that morning had been a little on the small side, fetched the trayful and let the diner take his pick. Sheer professionalism! I was tempted to applaud but my pipérade had arrived and I had better things to do. A large slice of toasted country-style bread, covered with creamy scrambled egg, topped with a fine dice of roast peppers, a few slices of chorizo and some halved cherry tomatoes with a small interesting salad on the side made a satisfying meal. Including a glass of fresh orange juice, it wasn’t a cheap brunch but it’s worth paying a little extra for the great quality. Come rain or come shine, there are chairs and tables outside on the south-facing pavement, though if I’m to to sit outside I prefer a quieter road like nearby Sydney Street. On Fridays and Saturdays Mange Tout also opens in the evening as a restaurant.

Before coming here I thought Mange Tout was just another tasteful North Lanes café, I was wrong… As the name should have suggested, this is actually very much a French restaurant as well as a café bistro. As I sat down to drink my delightfully abrasive cappuccino(£2), I couldn’t help but notice how many of the Mange Tout customers were tucking in to a generous sized bowl of moules et frites(mussels and chips to you and I). While not much of a mussels fan, I certainly am a fan of Steak, and just so you know, it was cooked to medium-rare perfection. Certainly a brilliant lunchtime spot for anybody looking for a well cooked continental meal.
