Ever since a visit to Greece in 2004 on a family holiday, I have been obsessed with Greek food. Mykonos Greek Taverna is a brilliant reminder of that Greek holiday, even if it doesn’t quite provide the sunny weather. Having been to a couple of Greek restaurants in Brighton and Hove, I would certainly rank this as the best. I had a brilliant mixed kebab that was perfectly cooked. It was served with rice and a fresh salad, costing about £10 in total. While this might not have lived up to a fortnight in Zakynthos, it went as close as possible.

Ah, now here’s the Greek restaurant Preston Street needs: check out my problems with Vineyard Steak House! Mykonos offers the kind of Greek cuisine I like: subtle, flavoursome food for great prices. Go for a Greek experience: if you haven’t had it before, this is an adventure you will definitely enjoy! I’ve waxed lyrical about it before, but I am a massive fan of Mediterranean food. It’s flavours are so subtle and refined, it’s the perfect meal to really pause over and eat slowly, in relaxed and quiet surroundings. Mykonos delivers on nearly all of these fronts: the food is very well cooked, and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed to enjoy it in. I’d recommend having some of the seafood: sometimes, living by the sea shows real benefits, and this is one of them. My problems here are threefold: first of all, there’s no upmarket Greek restaurant around, so Mykonos is the best place we’ve got, which means I pine for more upmarket food, service and quality. Combine this with the general ambiance of Preston Street(a little loud and obnoxious), and it’s sometimes hard to enjoy a nice, pleasant meal. Finally, this loud, obnoxious atmosphere attracts a certain, louder clientele than I’d personally prefer. I know this makes me sound more than a little posh, but this is a case where I will put my foot down. I want Greek food, and a little quiet, thank you very much! In the end, I want Mykonos to be so much more, but that’s more me projecting than anything they’re doing wrong. This is, generally, a very nice place to sit for a meal, and the food is top-notch. It just isn’t everything it could be, and I wish it was. A shame personally, but for all of you, well worth a visit!

Mykonos is a decent Greek restaurant located on Preston Street. Offering the usual array of seafood dishes and kebabs it does the job you want it to. The portions are big enough to fill you up but won’t leave you feeling bloated like some places. I’d personally recommend the Souvlaki, as it’s only £5.95 and it tastes as good as any you’re likely to try. All in all Mykonos is only slightly above average but definitely worth it if you’re looking for a good value meal. It’s not the kind of place you should take someone you’re trying to impress.

The location of Mykonos Greek Taverna is key to understanding its qualities. Because of Greek cuisine’s healthy bias towards seafood it makes sense for a Greek restaurant to be situated in a seaside town. That way it can make use of local produce thus giving its food the authenticity and freshness that all seafood places should have. Although not exclusively a seafood place it definitely excels in this area. However, the Souvlaki is great and it’s only £5.95. It won’t be the best restaurant you’ll visit but it’ll be a very, very long way from the worst.

Greek food is fantastic. I haven’t left the country for 7 or 8 years, but I used to go to Greece a lot as a youngster, and in my minds tongue the flavours are just as vividly exciting as they were then. While we get pizzerias, spaghetti dishes and all kinds of Italian food served at seemingly every restaurant(and I have no complaints about it) Greek food is sorely lacking from our lives… Aside perhaps Greek style Yogurt, and the odd Musaka we don’t see it much in shops either… That! my friends, is why you owe it to yourself to go to Mykonos! It’s superbly delicious and steeped in a Greek feel that screams to me of long warm evenings looking out at the disappearing sun and swinging my heels with excitement, wondering what delights the menu may turn up next. Pork has never been handled so well in my opinion, becoming softer than chicken… And for the less carnivorous amongst us, fish and vegetarian options are just as wonderful. Its not the cheapest place to eat out(depending on what you order), but its one of the friendliest, with gracious grateful and helpful staff… and there is the option to get the food to take away if you fancy. On one occasion, coming back from the pub I thought I’d try my hand at the take-out rather than just grab a burger and chips or battered chicken as seems to be the norm. great decision… It took a little longer to get cooked up, but was well worth the wait and came in under £6, which for a slap up meal was more than respectable in my opinion. And I felt rather proud of myself for looking so unique, busying myself with Souvlaki while others noshed on chips. Crack out«Captain Correlli», look up some Greek dancing on youtube or whatever it is that may spark up a desire to taste this glorious part of Europe and then head over to Mykonos, I did and will do again
