What happened Red Veg? We arrived at your door yesterday hungry and looking forward to a quick vegan fix and you were shut up and long gone!!! Nothing to indicate why just an old newspaper cutting saying that the London Red Veg had gone but we knew that, but nothing about the Brighton one. Will you open another Red Veg or should we bring our own lunch next time. What a dissapointment we were soo looking forward to the mushroom burger and the hot dog with lots of chips:(

Red Veg, you are so delicious. Not particularly cheap or fast, but definitely worth the money.

I understand that it is a given that pretty much anything deep fried is tasty. but, oh my baby corn! I have been here a few times, always hung over, and the treat that carries me through the day are their pepper-spiced deep fried baby corn with jalapeño dipping sauce. this is a must try!

Reg Veg deserves 4 stars just for being a veggie-only fast food joint. Love the concept! The veggie burgers themselves — more like 3 stars. Flat, frozen, & fried up all good & greasy — like a fast food burger ought to be. I got the mushroom w/monterey jack & it def did the trick to appease my hunger pangs Spicy wedges — not spicy but good nonetheless — hot & fresh out of the fryer Washed it all down w/an Elderflower Soda that was incredibly yummy as well Best part? It’s fast food — get back out there to enjoy your day of exploring The Lanes

Only in a city like Brighton would you find a vegetarian fast food bar. They have a good range of burger options and the first time I tried one I had to double check that it wasn’t a meat burger. This is nice for non-veggies and any veggie friends(who won’t have to hear perpetual moans of the lack of meat). The meals will come with a classic french fry and drink option, but you don’t really feel like you are in a burger bar as the café is set up quite nicely. The staff are okay and the service is passable, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more cooked to order ethos with the munch. Still, prices are cheap and everything is a step up from McDonald’s. I wouldn’t come here if I was wanting to impress someone, but for a quick bite of fast food that isn’t quite so ‘wrong’ I would always consider Red veg. They do good onion rings also!

I like RedVeg. The idea is great, fast food vegetables in the shape of a burger, hot dog(veg dog) or even falafel wraps, chips or jalapeño poppers. Finally a place that sells vegetables in a fun, tasty way for reasonable prices and fast. The branding is pretty extreme. You would think that such a great amount of Communist fetishism could bring about something more inspiring than fast food, but apparently in this case it doesn’t. With Brighton’s plethora of vegetable fanatics, this place is always packed out and popular.

Chances are you’ve heard some funky fresh reggae flavas wafting out of this joint; and if you’re wandering down Gardner Street in search of some veg-based grazing matter, this could be for you. Its prime-time setup in the North Laines makes this an ideal spot to refill the old nosebag. With a lovely brigade of staff and achingly cool youngens and cheeky older folks it’s all very nice. On to the substance, we’re talking wholesome, juicy, veggie goodness: crispy falafel wraps with yoghurt dressing and zingy bean burgers with mucho salad helping. Coming in at around £4 this fine for a feed and there’s some seating inside too if your need a lil rest. The ‘Red’ is all a bit playful, bit Commie-like, but from the collage of flyers indoors they’re much more interested in music and parties than silly willy politics.

This anti-McDonalds is one of Brighton’s favourite veggie joints, and for good reason: instead of offering, like most of Brighton’s veggie offerings, over-priced food in really quite posh surroundings, Red Veg does veggie fast-food: veggie burgers, fries, etc. and does it very well. Yes, the food is reheated, the service is not as fast as it could be… there’s quite a bit to criticise here, but it is still brilliant for one simple reason: they’re veggie fast-food in a town that seems obsessed with veggie noble cuisine, and we desperately needed somewhere like it! As mentioned above, it’s not like Red Veg is perfect, far from it. The food is very nice, but clearly reheated: still, with burgers and the like, who really cares? For fast-food, the service takes longer than somewhere like Pompoko, and it is often busy, so it takes even longer… There’s a lot that could be refined here. Still, beyond all of the obvious concerns, there remains a nugget of brilliance. The food tastes really great, some very nice twists on the classic burgers as well as the classic veggie stuff: the two cuisines combine very nicely. The décor and feel of Red Veg is also lovely, lots of red and Communist posters and that kind of thing: pleasantly rebellious! In the end, I’m not a veggie, and yet love eating here. If you are, you should be here already!

I’m definitely a big bean burger enthusiast, can’t get enough of them, so Red Veg should suit me pretty well really. On reflection though, everything here is actually pretty average. The food is reheated and not particularly fresh. Despite trying to impress the idea of ethics, a conversation with a worker there made it very clear that products aren’t all very fairtrade. While the food is ok, it is nothing new; all around Red Veg are vegetarian cafes and even a vegetarian restaurant(The George), so there really isn’t too much to say other than the bean burger here is pretty nice, but costs nearly £5 by itself.

Vegetarian fast food is a new concept to me. The only time I had Vegetarian fast food was when I got a McFlurry at McDonalds. Every other time, however, it’s always been meat, chicken, or meat with chicken. Red Veg sounded very interesting to me, so I had to give it a try. As I enjoy mushrooms, I had to try to Mushroom Veg Burger. That thing is delicious. I couldn’t believe that something so healthy could taste so good, but it’s right here at Red Veg. I’m looking forward to coming back to try the Chilli Veg Burger with Cheese. That has to be good.

Let’s be brutally honest, the best burgers are usually those that involve the words Aberdeen Angus and steak… If you’re completely committed to a life without meat however, Red Veg serve damn good veggie burgers. They come in a choice of four different flavours — plain veg, chilli veg, mushroom veg and my personal favourite, Hickory smoked veg with monteray jack cheese. Sides include fries, potato wedges, spicy babycorn firesticks and lipsmacking stuffed jalapeño peppers. They also sell sodas and hot drinks to eat in or take away. As for the décor, as the name suggests we’re talking half a dozen cute tables and bold graphic imagery of communist figures and memorabilia.

Vegetarian fast food, finally! A good concept in theory. I’ve always found the food to be good but not particularly fast. If it is quite a busy afternoon in there you could find yourself waiting quite a while. But seeing as its 100% veg and no GM, considering the quality the fast nature of a MacDonalds queue isn’t so appealing. The falafel wraps are extremely tasty and come loaded with hummus and the classic Red Veg burgers are lovely too. Perhaps in the past they’ve been too busy or understaffed but every time it was worth the wait.

Red Veg is a little veggie café in the heart of the North Laine area, providing really good quality vegetarian fast food. That’s not a concep that would be likely to have legs anywhere else, but this is Brighton, and it’s deservedly popular. I’m not a veggie but I am a falafel freak — recommend trying them as they are awesome!

I’ve actually considered asking for a job at Red Veg– I’m in there so much. Whenever I suggest vegetarian burgers to Londoners that come to the seaside for a jolly they always make a face like I’ve waved a dead fish at them… but as soon as they walk in and see Lenin’s face next to the menu they know they are in for something different. Even the most fanatic carnivore has been converted– what’s not to love… tasty burger, soft bun, lots of sauces, crisp lettuce. I’m a mushroom burger fan personally but I’ve tried it all and it’s all immense.

Quick, cheap and satisfying. Everything is good! Can’t come here without getting falafels, onion rings, or breaded mushrooms. Oddly enough, I’ve never had a regular burger from their daily menu… the special of the day always seem more exciting. This location is the best, pretty central to everything in the area — near fashion and health shops.

Fantastic veggie restaurant right in the heart of the Lanes. I’ve only had the veggie burger here but it was nothing short of delectable and it made me want to try all the other equally tantalizing menu options. I will definitely eat here next time I’m in Brighton, whenever that is… sigh.
