Just opposite the railway station a large open plan pub that was obviously once multi roomed a bit reminiscent of some of the large Scottish City Pubs which have retained their original character. Here it’s been completely ripped out other than for the original bar and one fireplace. Expect however lots of dark wood, large and small wooden tables. It’s quite ok though and a small selection of real ales and coders make it ok for a pop in. Prices are a bit expensive though.

Decent pub, nice when it’s quiet. Good selection of ales, and you can order a pizza from a nearby vendor cooked in a wood fired oven — lovely. Can get a little rowdy; avoid football nights, and the music can be a bit shouty at times. Worth a look.

Little pub situated at the top of Queen’s Road, right by the train station. I’d never been here before, but I had 30 minutes to spare before going for dinner, so I went in with a friend. I was actually very impressed! It’s not a huge pub, but the selection of beers are ciders was really impressed. I went for a Camden Brewery craft beer, which i’d previously only seen in bottles in specialist shops. My friend went for a cider, I can’t remember what name it was, but he was also very impressed. I’d probably go here again to sample some more of the beers that are on offer.

This pub does some lovely food, one of the nicest all day breakfasts i’ve had in brighton, really relaxed atmosphere with freindly staff too.

It’s a pub… has beer… so you can’t ever give a place one star if it meets that criteria. As far as pubs in the area go, however, this isn’t the best. It is sort of generic and there are better places to enjoy a pint. If you need a spot to simply watch the game and are coming from the train at Brighton Rail station, stop in for a quick one on your way somewhere else…

Sat at the top of Queens Road just by the train station, the Queens Head is a charming little pub full of friendly locals and train-goers popping in for a swift pre/post train pint. Decked out in dark greens and browns, with walls adorned in old adverts and newspaper cuttings, heavy wooden furniture and big, grand mirrors, it’s a comfy place to chill out and chat. The location means in the daytime it’s predominantly frequented by travellers passing through, but it’s the Happy Hour, or Happy Day, as the barman called it, that keeps pubbers there. From 12pm ’til 7pm Monday to Friday, you can get your hands on selected pints(including my favourite, Coors), for just £2.60. There’s a massive screen for sports and a menu serving lamb, beef and pork and apple burgers as well as cheesy chips and other pub nibbles, from 11am ’til 7pm most days.

Directly opposite Brighton Railway Station, The Queens Head competes with the rather classier Grand Central for the ‘just off the train’ crowd. That’s not to see it’s not classy, and like Grand Central, is more than just somewhere to go when you’ve just got off a train. I’ve been here many times to meet friends for an evening or an afternoon drink at weekends, and its location means it tends to be a good choice to start a night off. With thick wood tables and a comfortable feel, the Queens Head feels like a homely, comfortable place to be. There is also a big screen for watching sport, and a reasonable, if unadventurous, food menu. All that said, and this may be as much a function of its location as anything, the place is slightly lacking in character. It is stylish without being particularly interesting. A safe choice.

Not my favourite pub in Brighton(and there are certainly ones with a better atmosphere just a short walk away), but the the décor here is smart, the drinks pretty good, and the location really handy(right by the train station). The spacious feel, soft seats and décor of dark greens and dark woods make it veer onto the posh side, but this is soon undermined by the giant plasma! Overall, it’s not gonna be a my local anytime soon but it’s a pleasant place for a pitstop.

There is something about pubs near railway stations. They always have this feeling that people are going somewhere — and often they are. I love this sense of tentative time-awareness, that«Oooh, gotta go, my train’s in six minutes.» The Queen’s Head is a fine pub. Saddle in and you’ll not be disappointed. It’s a pleasant place, traditionally decorated and perfect to grab a swift one before, or indeed after your train. It’s also a great place to drown your sorrows if you miss your train, but I wouldn’t condone excessive drinking now! I’d recommend standing at the bar. That way you get to chat to the staff and in my opinion, it just feels«right».

This pub is pretty decent and is a good place to met up with mates for a couple of pints. They have a big plasma screen for sporting events if that’s your kind of thing. It’s nicely done up in royal green wallpaper and dark woods. It gives it a very cosy feel as well as a bit of class. Bordering on the trendy.

A bustling pub that catches your eye the second you walk out of the train station. It can be very busy so finding a comfortable and/or quiet place to sit can be difficult. I would recommend starting at the Queen’s Head for 1 – 2 pints and then making your way into the Lanes.
